He gets a bad rap with students because he challenges you and assigns a lot of homework. I understand that he's gone now which is a shame because he teaches if you're willing to learn. The finance department would have done well to keep him around considering the detritus that is there now.

One of the hardest teachers at PSU. Assigns most of the chapter questions but uses his own formulas during lectures and tests. I took this class thinking he couldnt possibly be as bad as everyone says but I was wrong.

Assigns almost all the chapter questions but does not teach from the book. Hands out study guides but when it comes to the actual test the study guides don't help at all.

Not as bad as everyone says. Oh has a ton of knowledge and willingly shares it in class. He expects you to read the textbook and then his lectures center around how the materials in the book apply to the real world. Unless you're 5, his class isn't too hard to handle. One warning though is that he does assign quite a bit of homework.

Awful Prof. Requires you to do HW from the book, but doesnt really teach out of it. His answer sheets have errors in them. Also, a writing assignment is assigned, but thats all he says about it until the day its due. I went to every class and did every assignment and feel like I have learned nothing.

The class is intense. You have to read the text book, study, and do the problems in the back of the book to learn and do good. A lot of people complain about this class but a lot of my class mates also mention that they do not read the text book. If you want an easy A this class is not for you. The class teaches things you can use and real life.

Awful, awful class. He makes fun of students who don't know the answers or get them wrong. His class is also way too hard. You're not allowed notes for tests and he expects you to know ALL the formulas. Don't take this class unless you plan on becoming a finance major. IT WILL BRING YOUR GPA DOWN!

If you can at all avoid taking this teacher then do. One of the worst professors I have ever had. Homework literally takes hours and most of what I learned came from reading the text, not him. Most of the students in my class dropped it.

He is so rude, mean, unhelpful, unclear, and acts like he hates what he does. He seems to take out his unhappiness with his job out on his students. I can't believe PSU lets him be so disrespectful to students. I have a great GPA and am not a bad student at all--he is just a horrid professor.

The class is hard, very hard. As mentioned earlier it weeds out those that should not be majoring in finance. I think I'll come away with a C or B-, and I put in countless hours. Good class if you can dedicate a lot of time to your studying, and project.

Maybe the worst prof. at PSU. He says he's not there to teach, just to clarify. He's not clear on what he wants, book is unclear, he doesn't even say what he wants for the project. He kept saying "you did so bad. bad bad bad" after the test like we were stupid/lazy, as if teaching has nothing to do with it. Also, tests are NOT based on the review.

First off I have a great respect for Dr.OH as a teacher. His class is difficult, but that is for a reason. As Dr. OH put it in my class "this class is where the learning curve gets steep." This class weeds out students who think they "might" want to be a finance major. If you do want to be a finance major take Dr. OH it will prepare u for the rest

John Oh is the best teacher at PSU. It's simple. Take his class if you want to learn. Don't if you want an easy "A". Don't ask stupid questions and you wont feel belittled.

90% of grading is based on tests, 3 tests 30% each. Notes not allowed, formula sheet is not provided. You memorize them or you fail. A large number of students, including myself had to drop this course before the 2nd midterm.

The students who did not do well in my class were the ones who did not keep up with the assignments. That being said, Accounting 381/382 will give you an edge in this class. You'll need to have a firm grasp of financial statements and linear regression to do the project. If you blow off the work in this class, you will suffer the consequences.
