I took (AUSP475 and AUSP125) in the Spring 2017 semester. Pipkin is very knowledgable and you can tell that he is passionate about the material he teaches. He has been teaching for a long time so he knows when you are putting effort into your work so you have to try! For 475 he has a textbook requirement, but you can find it for free online.

Extremely knowledgable guy. Only grades are the 3 tests. Nobody goes to class but it is helpful every once in a while. 40pt curve for all tests. He puts out a study guide for each exam, memorize the practice questions and read the pages posted on study guide and your good for an A.

If you know nothing about this topic or how to take notes, it's gonna be hard for you. You have to pay attention in class there's stuff that's not in the Power-points. I personally didn't buy the books but I managed to get A's on the tests. If you don't study you won't pass. NOT AN EASY A. Prof is ok, witty, tries to help.

Pipkin's lectures can be interesting. He likes to talk a lot about Albany and NYC which helped me pay attention. Also his british accent makes everything sound better. Smart guy, I hope I can take a course by him again. The practice questions and curves are saviors on the tests.

Professor Pipkin is very informative and knows quite a bit. I found class a little boring at times, but the information was very good...just something about his voice. Hard to figure out exactly what to take notes on, took a bit to get used to.

Professor Pipkin was always really helpful and allowed for questions to be asked after the lesson. Test require studying and you can't wing them. read the readings because they are on the exams. Class is engaging and he shows lots of picture slides. Also sometimes gave sample questions to study for exams with.

Great professor, great class (great slides) although it certainly helps if you're interested in the subject matter. If you're in the class looking for easy gen-eds you might find yourself complaining. I'm a planning major and I really liked his intro class and am now taking his urban design course. Nice guy, funny guy; responds to email.

he may be a great guy and all, but his class is ridiculous. i took this class so i could have one easy course, and it was just as hard as muy 300 lvls. you need to put in a lot of studying bc his tests are SO specific. went to class b4 the first test and took amazing notes, and after i failed the first test, i saw it wasnt even worth it. dont take!

One of the smartest professors on campus. Has insight on almost any topic. Anyone interested in true academia deserves to take at least one of his smaller classes.

DO NOT take this class unless you are interested in the subject. I took this class with no interest & I paid the price. He posts power points and outlines but his tests are based on(very boring)lectures. The tests are difficult & detailed. They cover a LOT of information. There is a pretty significant curve, but this class is definitely not easy.

Most boring class ive taken, he changes the class every semester so this semester it was really hard because he put barely anything online. point is if he puts sample questions online READ THEM AND MEMORIZE THEM THEY WILL BE ON THE TEST that should get you a B the rest is up to you besides the ridiculous 20 point curves. Shouldnt be lvl 100 course

John Pipkin is a great proffesor. He is interested in what the students think and always asks for recommendations. He is also very knowledgable. It's true the tests are comprehensive, but the questions are simple and straightforward. Great proffesor, and a great class for a Gen Ed with a couple tests and no additional work.

Awesome professor, cute little English accent. Im an urban studies major so I had no choice but to take this, the material is broad and pretty intense, but if you go to every class (attendance counts....17+ points for your grade) its hard to get lost. All slides and info is online, easy class and great teacher.

Nice guy, I never went to office hours but he seemed very willing to help, and he was very approachable, as I asked him a question one day after class. material was pretty boring, but he was so passionate and enthusiastic about it which made it a little bit better - difficult class but if you put enough time into studying you should be okay.

ok guys this class is so easy. one you just need to go to class for attendance because all the notes r either on the slides or on the huge review sheet he gives. you dont have to read the books at all and although you need to sit down and put a good 4 hours of studying for his test the questions r so simple if you no whats going on in the class
