Comment:
Dr. Dennis is clearly a smart man and an alright prof, however I found him to be quite condescending at times. When our class average was lower than he expected, he laughed at us for not understanding the material and said that he was expecting all the "dumb kids" to drop out now. The class is very heavy in terms of memorization and understanding

Make sure you attend lectures. He will talk about some things for longer/ pause and those have higher chances of appearing on tests. Do not need to knowing everything. Study smart - read notes once + understand then re-read again to get the info into long term memory. If you are taking this class you know how important it is to do practice- tests.

As usual for Dennis' classes, these are extremely memorization heavy. As in, know EVERYTHING on every slide. You must attend class to see what he emphasizes, and what to take away from experimental evidence. No textbook reading necessary, although free online ones provided. If you beg him to post practice questions/exams, he will.

Professor Dennis is an exceptional lecturer as he explains concepts in detail which prepares you for exams which take information right from his slides. Make sure to study though as there can be lots of information to handle.

Great prof. He explains really clearly. Basically, memorize everything in detail for exams - to the point where you can draw out schemas and list/explain experimental procedures, etc. There are numerous concepts that require a lot of conceptualization, so give yourself time to thoroughly grasp all the information.

Dr. Dennis is really good. I liked his teaching style and his exams were very fair. If you go to class and study hard, you will have no problem getting an A in his class.

Dr. Dennis is hands down my favorite prof so far! If you read the book you'll do really well on his exams. Detail is everything with his short answer questions. You cannot do badly if you go to class, read his notes, and read the book. Also, the TAs for the class are a MAJOR help! Danielle is also a babe.

Dr. Dennis is a great prof, from his lectures, you can tell he really knows what he's saying. This course was particularly easy once you got used to the fact that all he asks for on the exams are word for word what is in the notes. There's a bit of memorization, but if you read the textbook, you'll find that understanding better memorization.

I loved this class. It is heavy memorization but that is easy as long as you put the necessary time in. He's really into the stuff he teaches. His notes are organized and the questions on his exams are pretty standard. It is always straight out of his notes with maybe one or two thinking question. You only need an 80 in the course for an A

Lecture slides are not the clearest and tests are very difficult. Overall he is a funny professor that tries hard to keep you interested, but lacks the needed straightforward approach to teaching a class with this sort or material. Great amounts of effort are needed to ensure you remember every little proteinenzyme that's used and what it does.

Test are relatively easy, questions are taken straight from the notes, literally word for word and the practice tests let you exactly what to expect. Lots of material but easy to memorize it all as long as you keep up to class. He is very helpful as long as you asks for clarification. Only need the text for reference as slides are more than enough

midterms are tough. Heavy memorization, like memorization till no tomorrow. Exam are poorly written but answers to the questions are exactly from the notes. Details matter

Dr. Dennis is a great proff. He makes the class really fun. His notes are crystal clear and that is all you need to do well in this course. Midterms and final are very fair, straight memorization & little bit of logic is needed. Seminars are a great help and a grade booster. All in all, Genet 270 gotta be with Dr. DJ (Dennis Jon)

Pretty funny and approachable. Lots to memorize and regurgitate, and it isn't really clear what the most important points are to concentrate on for studying. The notes are good however, and he made the material interesting. Often let class out early (20-30 minutes of an 80 minute class).

Definitely a hard, memorization heavy class. Exams are heavy on detail and you need to draw pictures. Study your butt off and do his practice exams and you'll do excellent. Class avg tends to be mid to low 60's but class curved to a 3.1 as normal.

Dr Dennis is a brand new professor who was clearly looking for the best way to teach the material. He is a good speaker, and uses slides and movies to explain the processes better. There is an overload of information in this class. Notes and book essential. On his way to being one of the best!

He is an alright prof. I didn't really enjoy his exams because it required complete regurgitation of notes, such as drawing out the diagrams etc. which I don't find is a useful indicator of subject knowledge. His notes are ok themselves, although it usually requires you to figure out the point and the flow of all of the information yourself.
