Takes forever to hand back assignments. Doesn't offer feedback on assignments, tests, etc. This year he had some woman named Khamaiel grade final essays and her marking is really skewed. However, when I took the essay to Dr. Keeping he agree that she was heavy handed and he increased my grade on the essay from a 70 to an 80. Prof is ok, though.

I took his fourth year seminar and it was one of the worst experiences I have had with a professor during my university career. He offered very little feedback on written assignments and I had to go to his office hours and question his grading on every single assignment. He admitted to me that he never taught a class at this level and it shows.

"J" is one of the funniest professors I had, and his use of humour helped me remember up till now much of the class material. He's an exceptionally good lecturer. Wish he was friendlier--scratch that, it's part of what makes him so cool. His lectures were so good, it was like escapism from the real world. Wish I had another class with him.

Mr. Keeping seems a bit arrogant, and his marking can be unfair at times. I do not like him.

Prof Keeping is an excellent lecturer and person overall. He is very down to earth, unlike a lot of other professors, approachable and very willing to help you out in order for you to succeed in his class. He made a mandatory course enjoyable and I actually learned things I can apply to in my future studies. I highly recommend him!

Really great prof. Although the class was late and I was very tired by the end of the day, he still managed to keep my attention. Really nice guy. Ask him any question and he will answerr

Keeping is hands down the best professor at York. I would highly recommend enrolling in a course with him as he thoroughly explains rather challenging philosophical concepts easily using interesting, relevant examples and manages to hold your attention the whole 3 hours. I would look forward to this class despite the late time it was scheduled at!

Keeping was great. He kept me interested in the banal subject of the meaning of life. Just remember to keep up with the readings, or you won't be keeping a good mark at the end of the year. Thank you, Keeping.

J. did a good job presenting some very obscure material in a way that made it understandable. His sense of humour and tangents into scientific trivia were welcome. And I don't get the previous comment to do with 'snootiness' or 'elitism', since J. is extremely approachable, and about as down to earth as you can get with a philosopher!

Found him to give condescending and snooty answers when approached. Turned me off of a beloved subject which should really involve inclusiveness, not elitism. There's no real power in philosophy if it does not sympathise with others.

J. is a *superb* prof! He helps make some very challenging ideas comprehensible. (Have you ever tried to read Sartre or Heidegger on your own?) J.'s interpretations make this material seem almost obvious. He will talk to you after class. Best of all, he's just so darn likeable and funny and smart. Highly recommended!!!

Good teacher with enough mild eccentricities to perfectly fit a class on existentialism (and looking like Crispin Glover doesn't hurt!). Rather than just reading from powerpoint slides or presenting the material as if it were simply factual, he actually demonstrates how to think through puzzling issues in 'real time'.

Both hard-working and gifted. His powerful presentation of the logic underlying "DeBeauvoir's Arguments" shows why he placed emphasis on the need for structure and clarity in writing assignments. The lectures were of highly complex nature but always interesting and original. Heidegger marked a pivotal point from which to move-on into philosophy.

Comment:
Existentialism is personal education; J. is both a personable facilitator and a teacher who actually teaches. Not only must he consider the multi-perspectival nature of the demographics of each class, but must impart the logic of each philosopher so that each student can reflect on the values, morals and ethics most meaningful to his/her own life.
