Comment:

Karina was a great choice for Span 231, and I am continuing with her for 232. The class is difficult at times, but she is a good teacher and thoroughly explains everything. Tests are the hardest but your grade will receive boosts from homework scores, attendance, and vocabulary quizzes. Awesome teacher for Spanish courses.

Comment:

She knows Spanish very well, and you'll find yourself improving without realizing it. She posts practice tests with questions very similar to the real test. The group project at the end of the semester had very few guidelines, and everyone was confused. Other than that, it's your typical Spanish class.

She's the best!! So so so sweet and loves Spanish and the culture. She is so involved on campus and In the community. Ive heard her other classes are harder but she made you feel comfortable taking in front of everyone and she's very fair and clear.

sooooo easy. class was once a week and we did nothing. I loved the field placement and working with the kids. journals once a week which are easy. some reflection assignments on documentarys which are super easy. go to class tho because i think attendance matters and its once a week. a final group presentation which is so easy. i got a 100%

I'm a senior and if I had taken class with her earlier then I would've known I should've taken more of her classes! By far the BEST professor in the entire department. Caring, thoughtful, inspirational, and really dedicated to what she does! I've learned so much from her and I wish I could retake this class 100 times! She wants to see you succeed

Great professor. I had her for two semesters and she is wonderful. She is very smart & passionate and she really cares about all of her students. She gives 2 oral presentations and about 3 tests and if you prepare, you will do well! Online supersite homework is easy as long as you try. She is so sweet and I would take her again!

She is very understanding on students' struggles with learning a new language. There are lots of opportunities in class to talk to other students in Spanish and practice grammar/structure and get corrections from the teacher. A few online classes with oral, written, & spoken practice. Pre-test practice tests help a ton with what you need to study.

We had literally two lectures the entire semester, the rest of the classes were tests, quizzes, or group discussions. My friend came to her during office hours asking about a concept and she told her she "doesn't have the brain development to be good at spanish." Does not seem like she cares about her students at all. Class is not well-organized.

This class is supposed to be for heritage students, we don't practice our Spanish at all. She always communicates with us in english. No/few chances to meet her at her office. I feel like I'm loosing my Spanish already :(

don't take her if you want to speak, read, write in spanish. I asked if I could do extra in the community and she said no I wasn't ready. she barely spoke spanish in class read and follow all directions. bring textbook for points but you never use it do online homework i love spanish and this was so disappointing

I hate this class. There is so much to do, and she isn't clear about what is do when. She is nice, but kind of rude. She doesn't really care about her students. At first it seemed like she did, but then when you go to ask questions she doesn't seem like she has time for you.

I found her to be a nice person but I definitely did not like her teaching style. We barely ever spoke in class and half of our work was online so I felt like I wasn't actually using the language. This class wasn't at all what I expected college Spanish to be like and I ended up teaching myself the material the entire semester.

Extremely well spoken in both Spanish and English. You do have to put in moderate effort for an A but she gives out study guides before tests that are almost identical to the test itself. She gets to know all of her students by name and really respects them. If your average test grade is an A, you are exempt from the final. Would take again

So I had Karina for 231. She understood that we all aren't equally gifted in the language. She gave us lots of information and was always willing to help. Her tests are easy if you study, but she if you participate she is willing to bump up your grade at the end of the semester.

Karina has been one of my favorite professors at JMU. She is very helpful and passionate about her work. I have taken 231/231 intermediate level, 320 composition and 448 special topics in Spanish courses with Karina. I highly recommend her.

I've had her twice and she is a wonderful professor! She is a tough teacher. She expects a lot and won't let you just show up and give you an A... her Spanish is wonderful and she explains concepts CLEARLY. take her. she is great!
