I literally didn't touch the book, only read the novels he assigned. He lectured pretty good. You just gotta attend lecture if you're not there, you might miss something that pops up on the test and wasn't in a PowerPoint

Very boring classes. He lectures the whole time and stays on a topic too long and it gets so boring. Everyone in the class is uninterested. He tries to crack a few jokes every once in a while, but only the other prof thinks its funny. Seems like a nice dude its just so dreadful

Karl Ittmann is the least professional person I have ever had the misfortune to work with. This "historian" has no business working in this department or any other.

Reading is such a huge part of this class, especially if you want enough information to ace his midterms. He goes on tangents during lectures, but overall they're pretty good.

Alright straightforward class, well planned. However it would be better titled Racism and the British Empire or How Bad the British really were. If you have a vendetta against the BE take this class. If you don't care about the material but need a straightforward well instructed class take it, if you are unbiased towards the BE don't. Infuriating.

Eng. since1688-> Ittmann is a good hist. prof. and is personable and likable. The course is social history. Read the novels, follow instruction on the paper. The 2 exams are primarily about the lectures, but he expects you to include relative facts from the textbook. However you can find relative facts via other research methods. Recommended.

He required not only the textbook but also three other books, so be prepared to spend some money. His lectures seemed random and did not have very much flow or continuity, which made note taking challenging at times. For the tests, you have 7 days with the 6 prompts. Do an outline for one each day then review on the 7th. Best way to not go crazy.

This class would be better if he would slow down and not talk as fast. I ended up not going the second half of the semester except for tests because I realized all the information I needed for his tests was in the book. He will give you six essay questions a week before the test he will choose two and you answer one. I got a "B" and never went.

Great prof. but you need to go to class and read the texts. We had 4 outside novels and 2 textbooks. 2 tests and a 6 page paper as well as graded discussion days. Lots of reading.

Dr. Ittmann is for history buffs! In other words, if history is not your thing, you might want to consider elsewhere. The TA's handle all of the grading and if you are not up to a sharp eye for correct history this is not your class. Ittmann is a great professor and really helps those who are hardcore history types. Just go prepared to work.

I enjoyed his class, but he will call you out for using your cell phone or being late! Lectures are interesting. 3 tests, including a final and one paper, he gives the essay questions out for the tests a week before - outline easy!! Attendance is a necessity - I never opened the textbook, just the outside reading

I loved his class. You do have to attend every class or else you'll miss out on a lot of information. A lot of reading, I never used the text book though and still got good grades. 2 tests, 1 final and 1 paper. I am a history major, but he was very interesting to me. He gives essay questions ahead of time, so just study.

Talks a lot. No laptops. 2 test 1 final. 6 essay topics he chooses 2 you write about 1. 80% of the test is that one essay, which is expected to be 5-7 pages long about any subject. Read probably 100 pages a week. 5 books. 2 extremely boring. Go to class. You miss one and your done. Lies about TA's. Never respond to emails. avoid if possible

I loved him! His teaching is really interesting and great, but you really need to get with the TA in order to get an A. I used to chat up the TA for the A's. Although I did attend every class and read all the books and stuff. Great lectures, good studies and amazing class. He's terrific and will take him again somehow. Tests are hard, so study!

Lots of reading (4 articles, 4 books, 2 textbooks), he amounted 3 books in one month. It's an interesting class, but overwhelming at times. He's a great teacher, gives take home tests. And is very sensitive if you take food or talk in his class...

Ittman is enthusiastic and tries to make the best of what he has to teach. We had a hell of a lot of reading, but the discussions were fun. BEWARE, the take home test is graded critically and the articles are no joke. Obviously as a 3000 level class, it was not an easy grade, but fair none the less. British Empire 1500-present HIST3355

He is an extremely smart guy. The lectures are pretty interesting too. Exam questions are given before the exam, so there is no reason not to do well. I liked him, and I'd take him again.

I don't know about the others who rated Ittman, but for me the tests were easy. He gives like six essay questions to study and two are on the test to choose from. Read the text and your good. I stopped going to class halfway through the course. One of the two essay questions is more than likely from the text. Just read and memorize and its an A.

Quite goofy but he is very nice, his lectures are always interesting, and he is always respectful. Essay tests (2+final) are TOUGH, though. Heed everyone else's warnings. You have to remember every single detail and date to get close to an A, which is super hard because his lectures are dense and not close to the text and the questions are broad.
