Comment:
Kristin clearly cares about both her subject and her students. This is an honors class, so lots of homework and reading should be expected. However, she always made sure we were on the right track and not overwhelmed. Midterm and final exam were take home collaborative exams. This was a fun introduction to the broad topic of linguistics.

Kristin is the kind of professor who wants to know how each one of her students is doing, and to provide any additional help they might need. She is open and approachable, and this has not changed since becoming director of the program; on the contrary, she is more engaged than ever. Great person, great professor, great advisor.

Great teacher and lecturer. All tests are take-home. But expect a ton of frustration since most of the HW instructions are vague. Attendance is not mandatory, though missing even one class and you'll quickly fall behind. Otherwise, if you keep up with the readings, discussion posts, and Hw, you'll be fine on tests and finals.

Kristin is great, the lectures are usually interesting. Sometimes she gets off topic, so you have to do some reading at home. You use the text book for weekly assignments, and her tests are not too bad. Show up, read the book, and study.

Kristin was great, she was personable and broke down the material in an understandable way (except syntax, that I felt was lost on me for the most part). She was entertaining and knew the material inside and out. I would recommend her most definitely, I hope I get to take her again! Wished she gave study guides, though.

Dr. Denham is awesome. Her lectures were super interesting, we hardly used the textbooks at all, and all the tests were online. Plus she is super kind and available to help outside of class (I highly doubt you'll need help tho). I strongly recommend this class and any other classes with Dr Denham. There's virtually no homework & it's interesting!

Comment:
Easy class--all tests online, textbook explains clearly, she does well at teaching new concepts and building on old ones. One drawback is that she doesn't use PowerPoints for lectures, so if you miss a class it's harder to get notes you missed. Though it was lecture-heavy, I enjoyed the class and plan to keep studying Linguistics next quarter.

Comment:
This was kind of a weird class, Kristen was not the original professor and she became the professor a week or two into the quarter. She did say she did not normally teach such large classes and did seem to be a little nervous sometimes which is not at all a problem. But I do think it was hard for her to adapt from being able to help everyone to not

436 is the second class I have taken with Kristin. She is so smart and you will leave her class feeling very knowledgeable. She is so kind and helpful! Her passion for linguistics really shows. This was such an interesting course and something that will remain useful to me for many years to come. Definitely take a class with her if you can!

Kristin really gets you interested in linguistics. She even wrote the textbook with her colleague! The class is easy as long as you are attentive and do the reading. Kristin is very kind and always welcoming and ready to answer a question. Great class!

If you want an easy A, this class is for you. If you're the kind of person who likes to skip class but still wants a good grade, take this class. Everything that Kristin lectures about is stuff from the book, so it's easy to catch up on your own time if you miss a class. The work is straightforward, and our final was take home! Good class.

While the class discussions were interesting enough, it's about 95% things you read in the book. Expect assignments to be vague to the point of frustration. Minimal effort required to do well. Most days only half the class was there.

Prof Denham was my favorite teacher last quarter! I went in thinking Syntax would be so boring and I had heard it was really hard. But this class was a breeze. You HAVE to go to class and do the homework or you will be so lost, but she grades hw on effort rather than correctness. If you go, you will do well. She is really helpful.

Kristin is a really nice, approachable teacher that does a really good job teaching the difficult subject of grammar. All tests are take home and final is part take home and part in class (working as a group.) Tests are somewhat difficult but b/c they are take home you can do them by yourself and still get a B. And you don't have to buy a textbook

I love coming to class and that says a lot cuz I skip everything I could. She make weird and stupid, but important, things fun and interesting. HIGHLY recommended!

She doesnt use the book as often as she claims we would. Also the biggest issue is that the take-home final was more work than the entire course was. Although she likes the topic she teaches, her organization and class material taught in class does not relate to assignments.

Kristen did a good job teaching the class, I was disappointed because the title was "ling. of discrimination, dialect, and power" (or something along those lines) and all we did for 10 weeks was dialect. I'm ready to shoot myself. If you're interested in linguistics it's a great class, otherwise RUN.
