Comment:

Very nice old guy, and he obviously knows his stuff. A very intelligent man by all means, but he's extremely unclear in lectures, he never really explains or even tells you what he expects or wants from you and there isn't much structure to his course.

One of the hardest classes I have taken. He really understands his stuff but it is impossible to comprehend. Lectures are excruciating. Only 3 grades in the class, a paper and two exams. A nice old man, but a terrible professor. Don't expect an A.

Very difficult professor. He expects an insane amount of competence from his students (grammatically perfect papers, permanent remembrance of information)but as long as your papers are 100% perfect grammatically, you'll do fine. His lectures are extremely well-thought out...He isn't just rambling. You have to determine what he's REALLY saying.

This class was awful. The readings we did were fine and I enjoyed them. However, the class discussions were confusing and not helpful. He did not help us understand the material and did not do his job as a teacher to help us learn. I would not suggest him to anyone.

Unclear/impossible expectations, doesn't care about your grade at all. It's impossible to get a good grade. Nobody got an A on the papers- he even admitted to that. Classes are excruciating. He's a nice enough man, but he shouldn't be teaching.

He is a sweet old guy, but that doesn't matter in the classroom.I have never gotten less than an A in an Eng class in either college or h s (and I'm an English Edu major) and I did horribly. He is not clear, his expectations are impossible and he doesn't care what grade his students get. Grad students are in my class and are also stumped. AVOID!!!!

Horrible class. I took him for two classes and failed both--keep in mind, before his classes I held a 3.5 cumulative GPA. We had to write a personal suicide note for the final!?! Two Tests: only a midterm and a final. Tests do not include anything mentioned in class, and any quotes mentioned in class are not on the tests. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Does not help the student's improve their writing. Only gives two tests and a final paper, how can he expect students to write accordingly when he does not give assignments that allow us to improve? Does not help at all, tests are ridiculous, LOVES to hear himself talk. if you don't agree with him then you're screwed. DONT TAKE HIM.

Impossibly hard tests, can barely talk, and doesn't answer questions. Highest test grade was a 79 and he didn't care. Called the University full of Nazis and gave the class the bird because we don't require Shakespeare. Why can't a good prof teach Lit 2 instead of these old geezers that like failing people left and right?

He is the best professor I've ever had. You have to work for an A but he will help you if you let him. He isn't interested in crap or PR. He tells you the way it is. He wants to teach you to think and to think well. If you want a blow-off class this isn't for you. But if you want to improve in your writing he's the guy for you. Witty too.

I had him for summer session so he may have graded fairly easier than normal. my only problem with him was that he ran the class basically as a huge discussion so it was difficult to figure out what we would be tested over...i did learna lot from him though!

He is utterly bonkers! Do not let his sweet-old- guy demeanor fool you the first couple classes. This guy eventually commands no respect, creates an atomosphere of hostility, with his quasi-intellectual lectures devolving into an insane asylum sing-along without lyrics or a melody. Avoid!
