Very hard to understand, he mumbles and has a very thick accent. Very condescending and rude. Don't take his class unless it's the only thing available!

His classes are intended for those why enjoy mathematics. Two exams and one final with 8 questions each. All of these questions are discussed in class before the exams are given out. DO THE HW!!!He posts notes from every lecture. In addition, he is very knowledgeable and cares that everybody knows their math before exams and lectures.

Professor Tavernini is quite experienced with calculus but sometimes he has trouble explaining it sometimes. He digresses occasionally but his tests are quite straightforward. His pre-test reviews are basically the test. Study on your own time in addition to the lectures. The TA may helpful as well. Took Calc in high school so it was easy for me.

He doesn't know how to grade: I went into his office to ask for points back on the exam, he read my work on a 20-point question, and he said, "I gave you partial credit since you at least knew..." and he turned it to the front of the exam where and saw that he gave me 0 points and said, "...No I gave u 0 points bc u missed the point entirely!" Y?!!

Unhelpful, unclear, boring and repetitive. Covered the same material in his course that we covered in 3 weeks in another class. Tests are uninformative and a joke. Should not be teaching any more as most of the learning comes from skipping class and reading the material by yourself.

By far the hardest class, and Tavernini does nothing to make the subject any less difficult. Notes were written by him, so he basically recites them during lectures. Boring, and tests were impossible to pass unless you cheated. Also very rude and condescending to students.

Comment:
Tavernini is ridiculous. Do not take him if you have the option not to. He just mumbles on in his lectures. He doesn't teach anything, just expects memorization. His tests don't cover topics you should know. He just randomly picks exercises. Hopefully you either memorized them or wrote them down, or you're screwed.

this class makes close to no sense. you can make an A and not really know a single thing. He allows cheat sheets on the tests and all of the questions come from his online book. so if you just copy down all of his examples from his book you are guaranteed an A.he has 2 tests and a final in his class

His foundation classes were much easier. I aced hid foundation of math and passed his foundation of analysis. By the time you hit real 1, he does not seem to explain the material well enough. It is true that most ppl who do well in his class have his test questions from previous semesters. He is a very nice man but takes some thought to underst

His tests are kind of difficult, but he isn't as bad as some people say. Come on! He posts up the notes for you so you can choose not to come to class if you don't want to and he is very responsive to questions and emails. Most people just don't seek the help, so they never get it. He let's you replace a low-test grade with the final to pass.

Those that did well were students that had taken this class last semester and failed and/or dropped it, and kept their tests, and the questions were the same this semester. OF COURSE YOU WILL DO WELL IF YOU HAVE THE QUESTIONS TO THE TEST PRIOR. STAY AWAY! Offers nothing other than what is EXACTLY in the text. Stay away!

This class was very difficult. In the past, he used to let us use cheat sheets to aid in our tests. For whatever reason, this was not the case. From my understanding, at least half the class, (maybe more) did not pass with a C or higher. He's helpful sometimes, but you will probably get confused other times. Test questions seemed very difficult.

I don't understand why the other comments label him badly. He really does explain the material well-enough (you can still catch up if you're behind). The only reason why you won't understand it is if you don't work at it yourself. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I suggest you GO TO CLASS! Tests are come directly from example problems.

Tavernini was a very cool prof. When I learned PDE from him, He was available for comment, guidence. If people did not use his open door policy or could not stand the fact that he liked to smoke a pipe - I don't smoke but i am not a baby - then tough on you!

Comment:
He teaching method is vague and he gives take home assignments that are very abstact. This class is an option for those in the AIM program. If you are not strong in proofs and real analysis, do not take this course. It is more pure math based. He gives open deadlines and I prefer a structured schedule so this did not work out for me.

He teaches so that the students can understand it. The material is a little confusing but he will help you understand if you ask for help. He encourages questions and his tests are easy. He gives a sample exam as a review and it looks almost exactly like the real exam.
