Comment:
I had to drop this class directly after the midterm. The final is 60% and the midterm is 40%. Since he did not take attendance I didn't show up sometimes. Big mistake. When I got the midterm I didn't know anything on it. I'm sure he's a good professor but the class just wasn't for me. Too lecture heavy for my learning style.

Ok, the substance of the class is very interesting! The man is clearly an intellectual and exposes you to ideas you wouldn't hear elsewhere. That being said, you'll never be able to do the readings because they are so difficult. He DOES break it down for you in lecture and thats how you pass. Its hard to get an A but easy to get a B if u go to class

LOOK FOR A DIFFERENT CLASS. There is a TON of reading that he doesn't go over, and his lectures make no sense. There are only 2 grades- midterm and a final listed on the syllabus. He then switched us from a final (which we would have had 2 weeks after classes end to study for) to a 12pg dialogue paper. Way to much effort if your taking it for DEC

Positives: Only one midterm and a final paper. Negatives: unorganized, unclear, not straightforward, lots of readings, boring. Extremely difficult to follow during lecture. I would advise against this class. He might be better for 102.

He is a really nice guy but the lecture is really boring. I just can't concentrate in his class. I won't say this class is an easy A. The review sheet that everyone is talking about on here is just a list of possible topics that may appear on the exam. It is not really a review. You need to put a lot of effort for getting an A.

Comment:
An easy class with a humorous and pleasant professor. Tends to diverge into his own (admittedly fun) anecdotes and stories instead of the topic at hand, but the class is easy. The professor will condense the (horribly dull) readings into one or two clear ideas in class such that it's not necessary to read the actual articles in the first place.

Comment:
I am rating the course on "identity politics" (HIS 393 changes every term). Texts are dense and lengthy, some even IMPENETRABLE. He tries- but his lectures, while clear in language, don't seem to follow any direction and lack context. Difficult to study for. I would recommend showing up so he can go over the main points of the assigned readings.

Okay no matter if you love history or not, take this class. This guy is so funny and the tests are easy. Highly interesting course even though most people don't show up. Try to get Ryan as your TA if you can.

He is such a funny cute old man. He is very intelligent and if you have any questions regarding lecture, he will talk to you about it. He knows his facts very well and he is really down to earth and such a swell guy.

His lectures are dry because he tends to focus on social developments, theory and art, but he is a nice guy and a good professor. Just read the book and go to recitation. Only a midterm and final with 2 short essays and some identifications, all possible topics/terms are given beforehand. Quizzes in rec. don't count towards your grade

Professor Lebovics is very friendly and enthusiatic about history but wasn't very helpful or clear during lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory so I didn't go very often but I did fine just reading the textbook. I enjoyed the material but the professor rambles about things that are irrelevant.

Funny teacher, kind of boring lectures, and notes are online. The tests include 1 essay and 4 long definitions - the TAs grade according to amount of details (time, place, relevancy) I took it for the DEC and thought it was a lot of work, especially the recitations.

I enjoyed this class so much. I love his sense of humor, this guys is sooo funny in his own way. Exams are very easy, review sheets are given in class. Recitation is not so bad either. Textbook can look overwhelming but just like any other history textbook, as long as you can bare dreadful readings you'll do just fine. :)

He gives out a review sheet before the tests (only had 2 all semester) which is a bunch of names that you can Wikipedia, and a a few essay topics that you should be able to write an essay on from knowledge out of High School. Easy A if you aren't an idiot.

He's really knowledgeable. If you go to his office you can see all those European books in there. I wonder if he actually read them all. But anyway, Prejudice of Museums is an interesting class. Just have to present and write a paper on the museum you chose. He's really helpful in his office. Gives good advice etc.

Great class if you're interested in the topic. Otherwise, it's a little difficult to understand. Unlike regular history classes, there are no names and dates and such, just a lot of theories and movements. It is a class that you'll be tempted to cut if you're not interested in the topic.

Attendance is not mandatory, but the readings is quite hard to understand and it's lengthy. I would recommend going to class so that he explains everything. He's not hard of a grader on exams anyway.
