Took Mr. Laffertys class for winter session, no book was needed. I just recommend to attend all his classes, understand the concept. He gives extra credit which is always a plus. The test are not much different than his lectures. Overall great teacher

Professor Laffery makes learning Political Science unbearable. He doesnt set clear expectations to be successfully in his class. His lectures are extremely long and from time to time confusing. His grading scale is unethical and his tests are not based on the textbook or on his lectures. Most of all, he does not help his students who ask for help.

I really liked Lafferty and recommend him to my peers. His test don't differ too much from his lessons, you just have to make sure to really understand the concepts(!!). Don't slack on beginning your essay and definitely don't procrastinate! I'd usually take 2-3 to study comfortably. Don't be afraid to take his class, but reallllly apply yourself.

Worst professor i've ever had. His quizzes are nothing like his lectures. He rambles a lot. We missed an entire test due to him talking about absolutely nothing.

Professor Lafferty is pretty good. He is very knowledgeable of the subject he teaches and provides a reasonable amount of extra credit opportunities. He doesn't use a textbook and is slides are very vague so you have to be a good note taker. His exams are a bit complicated. Don't let looks good you he is really funny, nice and approachable.

Took Proff. Lafferty during the Winter16 and his class was not hard. He gives extra credit, some of the questions are trick questions that you may actually have to look for. One research paper, 4 exams, final not accumulative. All his test are straight to the point, take good notes and youll pass. No textbook needed.

Very nice teacher. Looks intimidating but very approachable. Does not use textbook so don't buy it. Tests are super hard! No notes to go off of. All lecture. You create your own notes. Must pay attention to his lectures! Would not miss class. You will miss a lot. Offers a lot of extra credit. Must have self discipline. Do not slack on this class!

Professor Lafferty is incredibly smart and knows his stuff. His teaching style might be a little difficult at first, but you get used to it. Show up for class, listen, take notes, participate, and you should be OK.

Worst teacher ever made students buy all these supplies and textbook just to have them collecting dust. Not once did we ever use our text books he just talks and talks makes no sense in his lectures and when you ask for help still has the nerve to say cant help you there. would never take his class again he needs to get reevaluated!

Do not buy the book. All tests are based off lectures, which are long and he rarely lets class end early. Makes things very simple to understand and I now have a good understanding of government. Because of the extra credit and participation points, I raised my grade a whole letter. His tests are on the tough because he switches up the wording.

One of the best prof. at MVC! His test are hard but he does gives LOTS of xtra credit opportunity. 4 tests and 1 Essay of 5 pgs. Test are based on lectures so make sure you take good notes and study. I recommend recording the lectures. Over all, pay attention and you will learn great stuff. He made me find interest in US Gov. I loved his class.

Very knowledgeable in his subject. Actually made me interested in US Government. 100% Lecture-based. Opportunities for extra credit. Make sure to participate! Only assignments are 4 Tests and 1 Essay. Tests are very difficult, so having THOROUGH notes and a good studying habit is key to passing this class. Hardest course I have taken this far. Fun!

Partially friendly and approachable. Tough in his grading. Test are difficult. Lectures are long and he rambles continuously, so I suggest having a recorder. He talked so much he made us miss one test that could have been a difference in our letter grade. Would not recommend taking his class unless you are up for the challenge.

Mr. Lafferty was a very solid teacher. Some people were intimidated but he was very nice and approachable and would go out of his way to help you if you participated. His tests come from lectures and he gives modest extra credit. A bit of a rambler and may be a lot to study with no prior knowledge at all, but explains things well overall

I am not a political science major, but if you are definitely don't take! His lectures make no sense, doesn't respond to email, the tests are NOT related to his lectures or book. One essay, supposed to be 4 tests but he likes to hear himself speak vs lecture so we only got 3. Luckily we got take home tests or I wouldn't have passed.

He only assigns one assignment at the end of the semester. Your grade is based only on your tests and that one assignment, so study because you need to do well on all of your test if not then you get a poor grade. Be prepare to stay through the whole class, he hardly lets you leave early.
