Goodness gracious, what a wonderful professor. REALLY knows what he is talking about!! He is so accessible outside of class time! Go to him and talk to him about your papers. It will be extraordinarily helpful.

Comment:

Dr. Rasmussen is such a gem. He clearly loves his subject and makes class fun and enjoyable for everyone. He loves engaging in class discussion and is very good at laying things out in a way that makes sense. My favorite professor at Centre!

Comment:

It was hard to get a word in especially if it contradicted him in anyway. That being said, it is a easy class to pass if you show up and do the work. Also, always write down what he believes something means because he believes he is always right. Watched 2 movies. Did 2 plays, 1 book, art history, and opera (HAD TO SING OPERA IN CLASS!)

While it he is a hard grader, he is one of the best professors at Centre. He is willing to work with you on papers and readings. The mid-term and the final are both very hard so be prepared to study hard for those. Lots of assigned readings and pop quizzes make the class stressful, but very few papers to actually do.

Comment:

Dr. Rasmussen is one of my favorite professors at Centre, and I've had him for multiple classes. His lectures are always very interesting and clear. He writes a TON of comments on papers, but he is a much easier grader than other English professors. His quizzes and tests are extremely easy as long as you do the reading.

Comment:

An eccentric and enthusiastic professor. He clearly cares deeply for the subject, making class fun. Takes forever to return papers, but his extensive comments are extremely helpful. Will put as much effort into helping you as you want him to. Tests are killer, but if you prepare well, you'll leave class knowing the material backwards and forwards.

In this class you will learn two things: That Dr. Rasmussen thinks he's God's gift to art interpretation, and that he attended Harvard. He picked favorite students and rambled, and was completely unhelpful during personal meetings. Any points contrary to his interpretation of art/music would always be challenged. Terrible class, terrible teacher.

Comment:

Gives a ton of help on papers if you go to him...but if you don't your grade will suffer. His tests really test your knowledge of the subjects covered in class. He's great but is also difficult. I really learned the material though.

He's a really nice person to begin with. A lot of class discussions and is very enthusiastic about what he teaches. But you have to do all the reading by yourself. So textbooks aren't used in class as much as you might like them to be.

He wants to see you succeed. Take any class of his and your writing will improve immensely, as long as you put in the effort and talk to him about what you can improve. And, like other English profs here, beware of "celebrations of knowledge." They're simple if you've done the reading. If not... *shudder*

Go to his office- you will increase your writing ability 100%. He is excellent at upper level-classes. Like any professor, he prefers students who actually want to be there, and doesn't have much tolerance for those who are ambivalent.
