Comment:
In my opinion, Professor Minelli was a great professor for introductory chemistry. Class lectures were clear and concise. If you are still struggling with a specific subject, he was easy to meet outside of class. During his office hours, he was incredibly friendly.

He has a nice personality, but terrible disorganized lectures. For some easy topics, he spent days going over it, but only 1 lecture on harder topics. He is an easy grader on labs, h/w, quizzes, midterm/finl. The class structure was Mon.: lecture, Wed: lab, Fri: quiz + lecture. Easy A if you've had AP Chem, but didn't learn anything new here.

Comment:
I had a very hard time following Minelli in lecture. He was confusing and often assumed we had more background knowledge than we did. Tests and quizzes were fair though, and there wasn't too much homework. He's a very nice guy and very approachable, but I definitely taught myself a lot of the material.

I found this lab to be confusing. When I asked him to help, he was either unclear or became frusturated. He grades the lab reports generously but actually doing the lab is the worst part of my week. I know I'll make several mistakes due to unclear instructions and a hostile teacher. He seems to struggle with empathy. Avoid him if you can.

Dr. Minelli is one of the best professors that I took at Grinnell College. As with any class, you will not succeed unless you confirm your understanding of the subject matter, but Dr. Minelli is always willing to offer any additional assistance that students require to learn.

Had Prof Minelli in the fall for the workshop class. Lectures were fast paced and there was opportunity to get lost. However, if you spoke up he would slow down and stop and go back over concepts. Quizzes and grading were fair. Overall a great class.

Goes through the material at lightning speed and if no one stops him,he assumes everyone understands the material. however the quizzes and exams are decent, borderline easy and is willing to help when anyone has questions.

Comment:
Lectures were incomprehensible and he has no interest in helping outside of class, which means you're left trying to learn out of the equally useless book while he moves through the material rediculously quickly. Not the sort of prof who should be teaching at Grinnell. Unfortunatly, this class is prereq for most of the science department.

Minelli may be hard to follow but his dedication makes up for it. He truly cares about his students as long as the students at least try to do well in his class. I find it hard not to like him.

Minelli isn't a particularily great professor, but nor is he particularily bad. True, the lectures didn't help me understand the material, but it's stuff that's easy to learn from a book and his tests are fair and relatively easy.

Minelli was pretty bad at explaining things in class and making it clear. his tests were pretty tough, though the final is easier then you would expect. if you go to him outside of class he's glad to help, and he won't be happy until you understand.
