Comment:

WORST bio class I have ever taken. Don't have test but multiple online quizzes weekly & poll everywhere in class. Lecture was based mostly on BIRDS, not interesting at all and you have to take vicarious notes in order to barely pass a quiz . Lab was ridiculous based on 7 week bird experiment/study and had a final in class, presentation & PAPER.

She's awesome. Lecture information is critical to success. Assignments can be tedious but she gives you the option to choose the species, so it can be interesting to you depending on what you pick. The tests can be in depth but it is ALL lecture material, no textbook, no traditional homework. PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS AND #WINNING

Comment:

Dr. Hughes is AWESOME!! Animal behavior is her field so her lectures are super interesting. She doesn't post powerpoints or use a textbook, so you have to go to class. The portfolio project mentioned in earlier posts was completely updated, and is really easy, but still worthwhile. 2 tests, 1 final, 2 quizzes. Best 300 bio level at CofC.

Prof. Hughes is awesome. Take her if you love bio, especially plants. I honestly don't find plants very interesting but I took so much from this class. If you take good notes in class and study you will get As on the tests. She loves extra credit! Overall awesome teacher, wish we had covered more human biology though.

Everyone says she is hard but she really isn't. If you go to class then you will understand everything that is going on. She is so passionate about the subject and will go out of her way to help you. I hated biology and really enjoyed her class. Study and you will be more than fine. She drops so many grades its hard not to do well.

I learned a lot from Prof Hughes. Her class was a bit challenging, but not impossible to get an A. I always studied the night before and I still got low As on all of her tests. Also, she drops your lowest test grade. Take especially if you're a bio major… You'll learn a lot. Even if not a bio major, you can still get an A.

If you take this class your entire life will be ruined. You will cry big crocodile tears every single night. Learn how to type sentences on an iClicker in 15 seconds. She's a nice lady but seriously don't take this if you ever want a future.

Dr. Hughes is really passionate about biology and her research but her class is pretty difficult. She doesn't post her lectures online and part of your grade comes from iClicker questions that are done at the beginning of class so you basically have to go. The tests are pretty hard but do the study guides and you'll do fair.

Her notes are very unorganized as she jumps from an organsim to the cells and back again to its organs all ending on its tissues. She is easy to take notes from, but the level of difficulty on her tests far exceeds what she has gone over in class. Beware you will use her notes as outline of what to study in the textbook.

Dr. Hughes is a nice woman and very passionate about biology, however her lessons are sometimes hard to understand. And the tests...They're murder. Usually no multiple choice at all. This is definitely a weed out class. Take someone else if you can. I wish I did.

Great professor and super helpful! Dr. Hughes is very straight forward and is lenient about deadlines. As long as you go to class and get the notes, you will do perfectly fine! Oh, and make sure to start the organism project early!!

Incredible. I've always been interested in the subject, and now I'm considering a career in animal behavior. The organism project was difficult but a great application for the class. Did well on every test and never looked at the book, tests are from lectures - don't buy! Overall, awesome class taught by an awesome person who knows her stuff!

Dr. Hughes is a good teacher, but you definitely have to work for your grade in her class. I highly recommend going to class everyday for the iClicker and I recommend answering all of the questions on the studyguide. For the journal assignments just read the paper over at least twice and you should be fine.

Hughes is a great teacher. She's very passionate about her lectures and is very interesting. If you don't like your grade handed to you, take her! Also, Go to every class and answer all the i-clickerrs. They save you in the end!

Hughes is awesome. DON'T MISS CLASS! It is a pain to catch up. Pay attention and take notes, go through the study guides. There is a lot of info, but it's not too hard to do well on her tests . She's very helpful; go to the study sessions in her office! Definitely take her for 112.

Go to class take notes. Look at her outline and you will notice that it is the exact same as what she put on the pwrpnts. She doesn't post the pwrpnts online so you need to take notes. The organism project is big, but u get to pick the subject, stop whining. Study for the tests, she is very flexible on deadlines. Awesome class saved my love of bio

To get a good grade you will have to work for it. Genuinely cares about students and will do ANYTHING to make sure you understand the material.
