Well, he's really knowledgeable and although his course is seriously lecture and book dependent, he cares about his students and does his best to make them learn. If you don't score well, STUDY HARDER!

Comment:

Mike is a really nice guy but probably the worst teacher I've ever had. I quote.. "Study the lecture slides and use the book as a reference". Even if you read the entire book and studied the lecture slides, his tests have many questions that we didn't go over in class. Not a good teacher, if you can avoid him do so.

Comment:

Well, he isn't the best professor in the world. He covers material quickly in class and "tells" you to read the book as well. For each of the exams, he tells you to study the powerpoint slides and then has many unrelated questions that were never covered in class. He puts a massive curve on the class but its still tough to get a decent grade.

Comment:

Very hard to pay attention to. Often goes off on random topics completely unrelated to course material. Exams and in class pop quizzes were difficult but ultimately Gretz is a good guy who wants everyone to do well in his class and curved the class at the end. I would take another class with him in the future.

Attendance wasn't necessary seeing as most of lecture was from the book, and slides were posted online. Lab was almost useless and needs to be re-done. Watch out for lab quizzes, very difficult, although what you lose will be made up with a dropped quiz and extra credit in the end.

Not fun to listen to at 9 in the morning. He can easily put someone to sleep. The class isn't hard, and the labs are easy. He is very monotone, however, so try to stay awake. He likes to trick you on exams.

This class is easy to get a good grade in. Just go to class or read. If you read and understand the book there is really no need to go to class. The labs are easy and there is little down time. If you do well on your first 3 exams you don't have to take a final. That was extremely nice.

Lectures are straight from the book, if you read & take notes there's no point in attending class. Exams are fairly easy if you study his slides/the book. Doesn't seem as though he cares much about the class & is often late. Horrible Teacher. Lab is HORRIBLE & lab quizzes are SUPER hard. Study the lab manual before each lab

Really boring to listen to. As long as you look at his slides you should do well in this class. He practically reads to you off the slides and lab is awful. You do your own thing and it usually ends up taking the full 3 hrs. Exams were easy though.

Lecture is useless. He reads to you out of the book. Lab is pointless as well but the quizzes are hard. Read the lab manual well before each week. Tests were hard but if you study the book in depth it's not too bad. Big Curve at the end.

Try to get a 5 on the AP Bio test. You may be able to get out of this class if you do. The lecture exams aren't hard but you actually have to study. As for the lab, it is a complete waste of time. You don't learn anything and the quizzes are SUPER hard. Gretz makes Bio boring, but don't change majors because of him.

I dislike Gretz as a professor. It doesn't seem like he puts any effort into BL1020, but the exams aren't too bad. I heard that he doesn't like teaching BL1020 so he might be a good professor if you aren't taking BL1020, and if you are he is your only choice.. so suck it up.

Definitely said he'd curve the final, but I think he curved it down. I had a 76% after the final and lab grade without a curve, but my final grade was a C?! Also he doesn't actually teach, he just re-reads the book to you! I fellaslep often

He claims he'll take role for points but he only does it once a semester. He teaches straight out of the book. If you go to class you can highlight the book word for word on what he said. Then he tests you on stuff that he didn't go over. Memorize the book. That's your best bet.
