Honest truth, if you show up to his office hours and ask questions. Then just turn in a so/so 20 page paper you will get a A-. Enough Said.

Dr. Siler is hilarious! Most of my class time was spent laughing at his jokes. I have no idea where these bad reviews are coming from. He is a good professor and you can learn a lot from him.

Class was based on one whole 15 page research paper due during Finals week. Good guy and means well, but the lectures and instructions for the paper are all over the place. You dont have to go to class at all actually. But dont leave the paper until the last week, or you regret life like i did.

He makes you do one research paper all quarter. Don't be lazy and not research then get upset that he's not helping you. If you talk to him he gives great ideas on how to research, but his lecture will not really help you write your paper. its a fun class I learned interesting things about the history of African politics.

unorganized, unprofessional, un-everything. learned nothing from his IR class. knows the school is a joke as well as him. other professors in the department have little respect for him as they know how little he actually knows. take another professor. worst class ever and hopes he reads this.

This is my third quarter with professor M.Siler. He is one of the most influential instructors in the political science department by far...He is not only wise, but also very helpful to his students..=)

He seems like a nice guy but as a professor he's very unorganized and more often than not he seems to not know much about what he is talking about. He's writing assignments are very unclear and his directions are vague and when you ask him to clarify he fails to do so. I regret taking this class and wish I dropped it when I had the chance.

does not take attendance and never used the books, don't buy them. The most important thing is the 20 page paper, the bibliography, and a final if he assigns one. Make sure you do formatting, font, footnotes, etc. exactly how he wants them and you'll be fine. he doesn't really read the paper. Don't wait till last minute or it will be painful

Comment:
Grade is based on one 20 pg paper, but all he cares about is the format of the footnotes & perhaps the 1st page; barely reads anything. It's stressful but if you know how to BS & make it look right to him, it's not that bad in the end. Rarely need to come to class unless you want to here him talk about his opinion; don't bother buying books.u

Some professors need leave teaching is they are simply no longer committed helping student. I learned nothing in this class except how to cite work to Siler specifications. Content of term papers is not important at all as he does not read them.

I had this prof for a graduate class and it was a big disappointment. It's sad CSULA does not have IR profs who take the field more seriously. The prof. read his dissertation/articles word for word on transparencies for lecture (?!??!) and never bothered to read our research papers (just skims and puts a grade). Unacceptable for a grad class.

Do EXACTLY what he wants for your papers. All he cares about are your footnotes (no websites), font size & spacing. He doesn't give you examples, so listen very closely. Class is basically pointless except when he explains what you have to do for the papers. No tests, just papers. No book required. 3-4 papers depending on how everyone's doing.

Teaches like a graduate class. Hardly ever uses the book, don't buy it. No tests, just research papers after the other.Majority of the grade relies on a book report 6-10pages. Do good footnotes and you'll get a good grade. If you suck at writing, don't take this class. mandatory to be in class, but if you dont pay attention, wont ruin your grade

The ONLY Professor who is caring about his students. He teaches how to write a research paper and a lot about the topic you choose. He is funny and cool. If you are a hard-worker just take his class and you will succeed.

Smiler's lectures are interesting because it relates to us, but he does not check notes or test about it. He believes that everyone needs to know how to write well so he asignates 2-3 empirical excersices and a book review. Do not wait until the last minute to do it. Do your work, go to office hours, email him, and you will get an A.

Worst Prof I've ever had. The first day he tells you that he is tenured so you can't do anything to him. Made racially derogatory comments in class. Learn absolutely nothing except how to write a paper EXACTLY in the format he wants it. He doesn't prepare before class and makes people sit and wait while he makes illegible marks on papers.
