Want an easy GE class,turn away. If you dont have everything possible to say about readings every day she wont like you. If your not a german student she doesnt like you. Lots of points which is good but way way to much reading for one class. Makes you miss other class to attend something for the class. Get ready to read ALOT!!!

I came into this class really enthusiastic. I love learning new languages, so i knew i would enjoy this class. Grobbel is a very VERY enthusiastic teacher. It was weird but cool the first semester. However, during 102 she showed how obsessive she gets over certain students and her career. She becomes OVERLY attatched and controlling. It's scary...

Comment:

Michaela is one of the most helpful teachers I have ever had. She will make you work, however the work is not too time consuming. A lot of little assignments. Her class schedule/syllabus is confusing and the the assignments give in class can be confusing but if you just ask she will explain more thoroughly. A lot of class discussion as well.

I took this class for GE, and it required WAY more work than I wanted for a GE class. Lots of required work including reading, oral presentations, and plenty of writing. The class was interesting but if you just want an easy GE class without having to put in too much effort, this isn't the right class for you.

She makes learning the basics of German fun. She's always willing to help if you ask and if you show that you are trying in her class you'll most likely get a good grade. You learn a lot in her class, and meet a lot of new people due to the group activities. She's very understanding if you can't make it to class or miss an assignment as well.

This is SPECIFICALLY about German 314, because I love Michaela outside of this class. The class is NOT about German culture. She is very passionate, but makes the class about tearing apart a billion books and analyzing them like an english class. Too much work and not related to german culture, but req. for German minor :( AVOID

Extremely nice, but crazy teacher. Grades on the weirdest, most unfair scale. We read about 10 books during one semester. Attendance and participation is CRUCIAL!! I would avoid taking this class if you could.

I love her! because of her i decided to minor in German. her class is demanding but if you're interested in the language (and not just taking it for GE) then it's pretty fun. come to class and try a little and she'll like you for trying and you'll meet some new people because alot of the class is group activity

Great teacher. She is a little demanding and her syllabus is somewhat hard to understand but otherwise she does have a sense of humor. She's outgoing as well. However, Kontakte was not a very good textbook. If it wasn't for the textbook, I could have continued my study for German. Kontakte is poorly organized and goes in depth w/ German too soon.

Very enthusiastic, if you do poorly in this class its nobodys fault but your own. Tough class, but then again you are learning a completely new language which requires a lot of study time. Tests arent so bad, and she is very helpful.

I love Michaela. She works so hard to provide a great class for her students. She is very supportive and approachable during her time. You are learning an entirely new language so whatever you put into it will reflect your speaking skills at the end of class. she loves student feedback and is very happy to see you outside class.

Pedagogy style:social immersion. You begin by speaking whole expressions without pronunciation or vocabulary. Meaning is inferred by context. Take class w/at least some German experience und don't admit it. Assignments are due while class is still unsettled/disorganized. I dropped 4th session--wish I didn't have to. Otherwise she is friendly.
