Zapata is a really tough grader. The whole class is in spanish and if you aren't a native speaker it's really tough. He grades so hard and myself and my native speaking classmates typically scored C- or below on every test. Wouldn't take again, ended my 4.0 GPA

Best Professor I have ever had. If you show up to his class, write down his notes, study and do your homework, you will get a good grade! He is lenient with homework and a very understanding person.

He doesn't post lecture notes nor send consistent reminders, so you need to attend class or ask someone what you missed. He typically only speaks Spanish during lecture but he will explain the information thoroughly afterwards. If you take notes and do the homework, he'll go over what you need to know in class for the exams, and you'll do fine.

Most of the students that struggled in the class I took with him simply didn't care to really learn Spanish & that's the main reason they didn't like his class/didn't do well. I enjoyed his class very much & did well because I actively listened/participated. He's a super funny guy who's excited to teach if you're excited to learn! Don't miss out.

You will need to know Spanish before taking this class. He will randomly call on people during class. There was one oral presentation which you could do alone or in a group and you can't have speaking notes. He does notice if you skip class.

He is really hard to understand for Spanish. He speaks all Spanish during class. He expects you to know what he is saying during class time. Most of the people in the class failed the first exam. The Test are really hard unless you put a lot of effort into this class.

I took 201 during the summer - class lasted 5 weeks. Hands down the best Spanish class I have taken. I learned more in this accelerated class than I had in any of my previous semester long Spanish courses. Prof. Zapata really takes the time to make sure you understand everything. He also is always available! Really nice guy

After one classes I can already tell he is not a good teacher for Spanish 101. He talked in Spanish 99% of the time. If you havent taken Spanish before avoid his class. He talks to the class like everyone has taken three years of Spanish in high school. Didn't translate any of what he said the whole day and expected me to understand and reply :(

Professor Zapata is a really funny person and he only speaks in spanish. I actually learned spanish more because of him. Tests are self explanatory but he's really specific. You have to study for them. Isn't clear on online homework so no one knows whether or not to do them. Doesn't upload grades on cougar courses.

He only talks in Spanish and calls on people at random every class. Even though this class was stressful to go to everyday, it did teach you Spanish a lot faster than some other professors who are easier. The test are easy and straightforward. He is understanding if you have an unfortunate circumstance and will let you miss class because of it.

During class he goes over random topics that may or may not be relative to the textbook material. He likes to make a lot of jokes that may go well with some and not other students. He does not have a standardized way of giving assignments which makes studying frustrating if you are new to Spanish. There are honestly better Spanish professors.

Zapata is absolutely amazing, he does speak Spanish most of the time but he makes it really easy. He doesnt make you do homework if youre doing well but he makes it extra credit if you do it all. Hes really nice, funny and cares about students. Just show up and take notes. EASY A!

For first year Spanish, very easy to follow along even though the course is primarily taught in Spanish. This class will adequately prepare you for the next course. He makes learning fun and tells funny stories. Only downside is the on-line homework, but if you get a head start you should be fine.

4 chapter tests, 1 group oral presentation, 1 written comprehension and your final exam. Attendance is not extremely necessary. Intimidating at first since he only speaks Spanish during class but he is very easy to understand. You will appreciate it because it forces you to learn. Willing to help all students, overall a very kind man.

Zapata literally made me cry in my car after class on multiple occasions. He really seems like he does not care about the people struggling in his class. He also does not post grades on cougar courses and when I asked for a rundown of my grade he told me to go to his office but he wasn't there. I emailed him and have still yet to hear from him.

Easiest Spanish teacher you'll take. He's so understanding and hell work with you one on one if you need help. Super funny. Attendance not mandatory but if you don't understand Spanish then show up. No essays just about 4 test and some "pop quizzes" that he does. He gives out extra credit. Zapata wants you to pass the class so don't mess around

I love Zapata! He is so caring about everyone and if you need the extra help, go to his office hours and he will help you out! He is also superrrr funny which makes the class more fun. It can be scary at first because he barely speaks any English in the class, but you catch on fast and it is actually helpful! I would love to take his class again.

Really fun and awesome professor, I recommend brushing up on the basics before taking though as he does mostly speak in Spanish. People do bad because they think it'll be cake walk(I did). Its not, you need to study a bit for this one lol... For tests he requires correct accent marks and conjugation. Show up to class, he'll notice if you don't.

Unless your are fluent in spanish do not take this professor. You will end up teaching yourself. He doesn't care about you or your success in his class. Doesn't offer extra credit. Not much homework which is good but other than that bad teacher. I would not recommend him.
