To any finance major: I strongly recommend doing well in the major so you can be a part of his student investment fund. He only takes 18 people a semester (you have to interview for it), but you get real, hands-on experience running an actual portfolio. There's also guest speakers, industry highlights, and job opportunities for the group.

Took him during the summer. Grade consisted only of 3 tests. He provided homework problems from the book to practice but they're not counted for a grade. He explains the math in a simple way to help you understand the logic behind it. Pay attention, study, and do the practice problems and you'll pass.

Really good finance professor. I previously took another finance class and was completely lost. I had to retake the class and found this professor. He is by far leaps and bounds better then the other finance professor I had. He will teach you the material and make sure you understand the principle behind it.

One of the best professor I've ever had. He made it very easy for students, did not go much depth for an introductory finance class. He explains things in a very understandable manner. He lets you know what will be on the exam and gives you problems to practice. As long as you know how to do the problems, you're good for the class.

Mike is a great finance teacher! Take him! He makes it easy to understand which make me like Finance. The math is not hard, you just have to understand the concept. The final is 40% of your grade but it should be easy!

I've never given a review, but Dr. Sullivan is hands down the BEST professor I've had PERIOD and he deserves a shout out! Go to class because he literally gives you all of the material you need for his tests. Book is not needed, he provides printouts that have everything and the examples are exactly the same as the tests (just changes the #'s). A++

Took Dr. Sullivan for Summer III and it was a breeze! You need to take the time to study but he makes the class impossible to fail. His tests mimic class examples and HW is not for a grade but makes for good practice. He is amazing and will be there for you if you need the extra help. I would definitely take this class again - just for fun!

Sullivan is a great professor. He diverges from the book in order to teach the essentials in a way students will understand. The class was tough. Final is cumulative, but the test through out the semester really prepare you for it. I would take this class again. (3 exams + cumulative final)

To pass this class, print the notes he provides and then take your own notes on those. Show up to class, star in the notes when he says, "this is an old test question." Do the HW even though he doesn't collect it. Study the HW and notes and you'll pass. Amazing instructor. You won't regret taking him, ESPECIALLY if you're a finance major.

Students assume Dr. Sullivan's class is easy since Thistle, Choi and Lee are awful professors. Yes, avoid them at all cost but don't think you are off the hook with Sullivan. This class is HARD but he simply is the best finance professor UNLV has & even then a lot of people failed exams left and right and need to retake. Don't underestimate FIN301

Best FIN301 Professor at UNLV but this class is tough. Go to class, copy his notes, STUDY STUDY STUDY and you will do well. Don't expect to go over notes once and get an A. Sullivan teaches well and keeps the class entertaining. Really nice guy and is willing to help. His class fills up quickly so sign up EARLY so you don't end up with Choi or Lee

He is by far the best Finance professor UNLV has to offer. He explains things thoroughly and is willing to help whenever necessary. Unfortunately, this class consist of ONLY tests and a 40% final. I took this class twice, second time was over the summer with Sullivan. Study hard and do not miss class, this class is difficult, but professor is great

3 tests 1 final. 20% of your grade and final is worth 40%. Bomb one test and fail the class. No extra credit, no homework, no attendance points. He only tests to see if you know the material. He's a nice guy and he talks about his kid alot.

He is a good guy, but his class is really hard. Beware of his final exam. He is probably the best finance teacher that unlv has to offer, but I really struggled in here. Just study. A lot. More than you think you need to. A lot of people ended up completely bombing the final, including me. So I have to retake. He's a good person though.

He is a great professor. No homework but he does suggest practice problems to do. He goes over the assigned questions from the book in class, so the book is not necessary. 3 mid term exams and one cumulative final. He gives you back your previous exams to use as a study guide and the questions are identical on the final.

I switched my major to finance because of this teacher and I'm glad I did. I heard so much bad things about finance that I was worried but taking it with Sullivan made me not worry as he made it so simple. No need for book. His notes is all you need. No tricks on exams. What he teaches will be there. I wish he taught every finance course.

Attendance not mandatory but needed if you want to pass. A lot of people on campus will tell you that Fin 301 is a class you have to repeat but Sullivan really helps you understand the subject and he wants you to pass. So do the homework questions (which are not for a grade) and prioritize studying for the class.

Probably the best professor for Fin301 at UNLV. He really tries to make sure everyone understands the material. Final is cumulative. Overall grade was solely based on tests, no homework, quizzes, or participation cushion so it's not easy to come back from a bombed test. Review lecture notes and put the time in, you'll pass.

Not an easy A. You have to understand the "why" not just memorize how to do the problems. i wouldn't buy the book just understand the problems he uses in class and his lecture note problems. theres no extra credit in this class so make sure to do well in the exams and take good notes. the test are basically 90%notes and maybe one curve ball problem

Honestly a great guy and teacher. His exams are basically like the notes and throws very little curve balls. He's very understanding with the grading as well and genuinely wants to make sure students get the material. I never did the homework and just went over his in class examples and got an A. Don't buy the book as he provides his own notes.
