Comment:

I loved how this class was set up. There was a lot of homework between aleks and worksheets but it was worth it to retain the information. The professor is great at guiding you to the correct answer if you missed it. There is 4 test and a final that you have to take at the testing center.

Comment:

I go to osu and was not about to take 1172 on campus. i took it at columbus state and it was the best decision i made. yes the material is naturally difficult but he really tries his best to make sure students understand. very clear with what he expects. super nice guy and class i highly recommend taking it with him.

He was a great professor and he gives good feedback. He responds to emails quickly. He is good at answering questions and he tries to make sure you completely understand the topics he is teaching. I would recommend him for this class.

Very laid back and honestly cares about each student doing well. While he was great, the school mandated class structure was not. Grades were way too test heavy. There was tons of online work and hw worth only a small fraction of your grade. The online forced time commitment was unrealistic.

Amazing lectures might be going too far, but I enjoyed his lectures. He would have us do examples on our own in class, then go around and help us individually if we were struggling. If I was a bit behind, I had no feeling of guilt, and he would just help you out. He's a good grader, and he's also very caring and sweet. In my top 2 fav profs.

His method of teaching a bit different, a lot of times I had to study on my own to understand the concept behind each topic. However, he gives full points for hw even if you get it wrong. His exams review are very important, pay attention to them and you should be okay. Overall, really great person and shows a lot of respect!

Comment:

The only grades in this class are your unit tests and homework (4pt each) so it is important to do them, and do well on the tests but you are very prepared. helps if you took precalc, or are familiar with trig in high school/ other college courses. He is an incredible prof and remembers so much about each individual student. I felt very cared for.

This guy is awesome! Laid back but still challenging. Very good lectures. Cares about his students. He pushes your understanding in class/ home-works but tests the baseline knowledge on tests. Probably the best teacher Ive ever had.

Comment:

Dr. Xu is a top-grade professor. He is exceptionally clear in his explanations and presentation of concepts. He is helpful during his office hours and encourages students to do well. Take with Xu any math class you need, it is worth working your schedule around his class offerings. Too bad he doesn't teach higher than 1172. Highly recommended.

I took an class online. It was difficult b/c it was Math, not b/c of Xu. He was clear about his expectations, encouraging, accommodating & helpful, incredibly prompt with grading and responding to emails. I wish all professors were like this! Book and Blackboard lesson plans, weekly homework which can be redone for full credit, 4 tests, 1 exam

Do NOT take his class online. Blackboard assignments don't match the homework. We did not use math book at all. 800 points total in the class, and 680 of them come from tests/final. Tests are 120-200 points each. All the test determine your grade in the class. Homework assignments are 5 points. The tests are taken on campus in the testing center.

I would never take this on-line class again . I barely got a C. Based on his feedback on homework assignments, I think he would be a great teacher in person. He explains things well, but on-line you get so caught up in the homework assignments its hard to figure out what you are actually doing, at least it was for me anyways.

I hate math, but Mr. Xu will go out of his way to make sure everyone knows what they are doing. He loves math and will be there for you always. I would take any other math class with him as the teacher. He is a easy grader and a clear speaker. He reviews everything and wont make you feel unprepared for tests or quizzes

I always had quick responses by email and grades were promptly entered. Generally generous with grading, but do the text, exercises, videos; whatever works for you. The Our Classroom online bulky online format didn't work well for me but it was clear, accurate and thorough.

Do not take this class, the way he has everything set up is very confusing. I was not able to start doing work in this class til October due to the bookstore being sold out of the Mymathlab online key, and when I asked if I could catch up he told me no. This teacher is greedy and just wanted me to take the class again so he could make more money

Do not take this course online. It is incredibly confusing as he teaches from his notes and not from the book and does not use blackboard. While he is quick to respond to emails they were often confusing. Tests and all homework were paper and pencil tests even though the course is online.
