Comment:

This class was perfect for me. I was absent a lot but wasn't strict on attendance. I got an A since he only basis grade off test scores.He was VERY lenient and nice. I saw many students take tests over a week late. No (required) homework.passes out worksheets (info, not problems) so you have addition info other than textbook. VERY HELPFUL :)

He expects you to understand everything, and falls back on "if you don't understand, then read the book and come with questions". When you come with questions, he says "the book covers that". I had to use the boring book to teach myself what little I could about accounting. Its one thing to be passionate about a subject, and another to teach it.

If you want to teach yourself then this is the class for you. If you want your teacher 10-15 minutes late every day and lecture you if you come in late this is for you. If you want the worst true false questions this is for you. Basically he expects you to already have the mind of an accountant and wants you to think and assume like one.

I managed an A in this class, but not because the teacher was good. He was 5-15 minutes late every day and spent a lot of time each class lecturing people who either showed up later than him or didn't do the homework. Test questions didn't match up with the homework. He got behind and then tried to cram 4 chapters into the last 2 weeks. Avoid.

Marien is my least favorite professor I've ever had. He is rude to his students, forgets his hand outs and what he is teaching constantly. I thought i would just stick it out through the rest of the semester but I honestly would like to take this class over again with a different professor because I feel like I haven't learned a thing.

Mr Marien is a nice guy but not really a good professor. He is very helpful to answer any question. Sometimes he is not clear about what he is saying or doesn't know how to explain the material. If you haven't known accounting before, it may be hard for you to pass this course. You should read the book before class, it will help you.

I just completed mariens couse in accounting. I'm older than most. Just read some comments. My conclusion: The students writing some comments expect to get a good grade without working for them. If they paid attention to what was said in class,studied the chapters, they'd receive better grades and then give marien a better report card.

Just finished the course with Marien and found the class well structured and his presentations were informative. many of my class mates wanted everything to be handed to them without working for it. Its easier to criticize the instructor rather than take the responsibility for their own laziness. They want averything handed to them without working.

Worst teacher I have ever had. I am usually not about ratemyprofessor.com b/c I think it's full of slackers that bag on their instructors. However I'm a 3.5 GPA student and this teacher is a joke. I did not learn anything and taught myself this course. If you are interested in ACCT and he is the only teacher left, wait until the next term.

A very difficult teacher to learn from. I took his class in the Spring of 2007, first day of class 43 students were present, two weeks later 17 remained. Shortly there after, the number went to 16 because I could no longer tolerate his lectures. I strongly advise everyone to register for classes A.S.A.P to avoid having to take Marien.

Marien is difficult to understand because he doesn't say what he means or mean what he says. He transposes his words often, making it hard to follow. It took me a bit to catch on to this, but once I figured it out I followed the examples in the book & taught myself @ home. His handouts & attendance are KEY to do well. Take Tuttle instead! Got an A.

Hes a really bad teacher, i was interested before i took the class, but he made things very difficult to understan. He taught us everything to know about how to account (general journals and such) then on the final does terms. Very scatter brain and cant hear well but will try to help you and is knowledgable if you can understand him.

if you want to learn accounting, this is NOT the guy for you. He doesnt seem to know what he's talking about and looks lost without his textbook. He is quick to criticize and often criticizes you for doing something that he has taught you. Hes very disorganized, highly unlikely to remember your name. Backtracks a lot due to his of constant mistakes
