if you take the GIG classes, get ready for the pain, life is suffering! but setting the misery aside, you knock out 10 creds + eng requirement, and learn quite a bit from a professor that actually cares to teach about a subject, if you're falling behind bc work/other classes he's pretty forgiving if you let him know in advance! great guy 13/10!

Neal is a great guy! He appeals a bit more to middle-of-the pack students, but he is very knowledgeable about advanced subjects and willing to help out where he can. He gives a good amount of homework (beware the peer edits!), but everything he assigns is crucial to his teaching and has a clear direction in mind. Great class, highly recommended!

Neal is a kind and humorous teacher. He is there for his students during office hours. His class taught me how to structure my essays properly and how to get to the point. We do group critiques which really helped improve my essays. I enjoyed his class and the group activities that we did. A 4.0 will not be hard if you put in your time and effort.

One of the best and most influential professors I've had at SCC. His material is awesome and his sense of humor is dry but amusing. You can tell he loves his job and he is willing to answer any questions. As far as the work goes, there's quite a bit but he definitely does a thorough job on teaching you how to structure an essay.

Neal is great! Hes super chill, and a pretty easy grader. He can be a little unorganized or forgetful at times though. The homework isnt that difficult, its mostly journal entries or reading a few chapters of the assigned books.

This was my first college class, and I am glad I took Mr. V.! He taught difficult things in a way I could understand. He was funny. The last paper was hard but he helped me a lot and it was interesting.

In class, Neal was very funny; the class is always interesting. The papers are really hard. Essay feedbacks are given from other students, he only gives feedback for the submitted final draft which cant be changed anymore. Took him very long to grade anything at all. Overall okay teacher, but if I have to chose, I wont take him again.

I think he is pretty easy grader and he gives much time to write essays. However, he didn't give any feedback about assignment and essay, and he also really slow grader. He's class is really good, but if someone ask me recommendation to take his class, I don't recommend his class.

Since Neal is a really reasonable professor, doing well in this class was not out of reach. Prior to coming to his class, I had some skills from previous remedial classes; however,I learned new things that helped my essays.Though not a hard teacher, you will apply analytical thinking as it pertains to literature. Overall, Neal is a terrific teacher

Nice. Trying hard to cope up with canvas in the current hybrid classes though. Lots of work but very good teacher! You can tell he's passionate in teaching. Says 'and such' at the end of practically every sentence xD

Neal has good ENGL102 classes. His grading is fairly forgiving and he doesn't assign much reading. Reading materials are generally easy to understand and flexible to be made into an essay. He gives homework almost every day though. Follow his instructions (and preferences at times) for essays, and you'll do great.

Crystal clear on what he expects from you. He provides you with everything you need to write a good paper. The assignments are busy work, but help you with the course material. You get graded on attendance as well so show up everyday. He's hilarious too which made the 2 hour and 15 minute class go by super quick

Neal makes his expectations very clear, which is a rare find in an English teacher. His expectations are pretty reasonable and he's a funny dude. If you've had trouble with other English teachers (MERRIN, for example) grading down your essays for things not mentioned in class or for exposing your opinion, you'll be relieved to take Neal's class.
