You can just pass without going to class, but he says things in class that he doesnt put in the lectures that will be on the exams. Supplementary material is fair game for tests. Go to LAB! You dont need the textbook.

Very kind and funny teacher who puts effort into the lessons. Labs are important and mandatory, but the midterms and final are also the most important aspect of the class. Questions can be based on something that was covered a single day in the class, so notes and outside sources are very important.

He is such a funny professor, and his lectures are really clear and interesting. He assigns the occasional reading, but they are always relevant and are usually NYT articles. The TA's are awful, but the labs are self-explanatory and are in groups so thats easily mastered. Would totally take again.

Kallenbach is a really nice, funny guy. I found his lectures hard to follow but if you learn the material on the slides you'll be okay. I thought his exams were a bit hard. His questions require you to know howwhen to apply lab techniques rather than to repeat memorized information. Though, in the end he is a very lenient grader.

He is SO nice! He'll go out of his way to help you, and he enjoys getting to know his students. He learned my name early on and always struck up conversation with me. I wasn't very interested in the topic, but I enjoyed his lectures and thought he did a great job explaining material. I'd recommend him in a heartbeat.

This course is an easy A if you treat it seriously. The readings cover everything from the lectures with more detail, but you should go to lecture anyway. Not only is Professor Kallenbach smart and funny, but he assigns a lot of in-class work and sometimes does demonstrations that show up on the midterms. Overall, I enjoyed this class.

Overall, his syllabus is vague and he is unpredictable (e.g. he spent a lot of time teaching moles, but not a single question in the following test was about moles??) But he is easy to approach and assigns a lot of in-class group exercises, so it is nice to take his class with a group of friends, but is extremely awkward if you do not know anyone.

Kallenbach is a sweet and genius old man. His lectures are sometimes confusing if you haven't read the textbook, but his office hours are necessary for success. He takes appointments and will not stop until you understand something how he understands it. I developed a fantastic relationship and he helped me get into medical school!

This class can be very easy once you figure out what and how to study. My advice memorize the important part of textbook, listen to his lecture twice,go to office hours and there is no way you won't get A-.He is very lenient just a lot of reading for a chem major as I hate reading. If it werent for my illiteracy Id say this was easier than gen chem!!

Great professor. One of the best science professors at nyu. He really makes biochemistry interesting. Tests were a tad challenging but if you keep up with the work you will be more than fine. Extremely generous with grades.

Kallenbach is definitely an interesting character. I learn some things from him and other things from the lecture. He is very funny in lecture but I admit, I fell asleep many times. I managed an A- in the class because I studied diligently and arrived to class. Word of advice: Don't skip lecture! Work hard and you will receive the grade you deserve

He teaches the class as if you already mastered Gen Chem, Bio, and some Orgo. The class is divided between those who took Molec Cell and those who did not. If you have taken Molec, then you might find this class easy. If you did not (like me), you will find yourself having to work hard. It's possible to get a good grade if you really work at it.

There are plenty of takeaways from the subject material in this class, but Kallenbach doesn't have much to do with what you retain. Success might really be up to biochem being your jams or not.

Kallenbach can occasionally get you happy and laughing with his jokes in class but his teaching leaves something to be desired. Its hard to figure out what to study for the test. Lecture is HUGE. Record it. I did not find Prof. K to be very accommodating for my personal needs. I did not make a big deal to the admin. This class is NOT recommended

Prof. Kallenbach knows he's teaching a graduate level class and thus his expectations are on par with a graduate Prof despite teaching mostly undergrads. Lectures are excellent and you learn a lot if you show up and REALLY pay attention. DO THE PROBLEMS ASSIGNED!! Invest in the workbook. He's VERY helpful at office hours, may Prof K NEVER retire!!!
