The way he is depends on his day. Class was tough and also not tough but he can be awkward at times

I struggle with chemistry, so I went to his office hours for help when I needed it. I appreciate that he was able to do that at least, but he had no concern for the mental health issues I also exhibited when in his class. He seemed to believe I was just flippant and told me that helping me was a waste. Taking his class was a waste...

I liked Professor Brandt, he always responded to e-mails quickly, took time to go over practice problems and Sapling in the beginning of class, fun in lab, had convenient office hours. The quizzes were from the homework, but the exams were usually really confusing and had problems wed never seen before.

He has really great ideas for research opportunities and is always available to help and discuss the experimental outcomes. He prepares his students for practical world by engaging presentation of results via chalk talk and ppt. The tests are fair and reflect homework, which is rare in higher education.

He moves at a very fast pace. Tries to confuse students in tests by testing concepts he neither talked about in class, nor were assigned as homework. He has really high expectations on his students but spends a lot of class time joking with students rather than preparing us for tests.

Dr. Brandt was really great. I find the reason that most students have trouble with his teaching style is because they misunderstand the only reason we are learning this chemistry is for application and thus his tests are application based. If you can apply the chemistry, you can succeed!

He is unclear about what concepts are truly important to know and moves at a very fast pace for a 100 level course. He is a fairly tough grader, but is nice enough to not give out a C- which helps students who may need a C for prerequisites.

Extremely helpful, even came in on his days off to hold study sessions before exams. Book was pretty worthless though, like 1/5 practice problems at the end of the chapter were incorrect (though if you email Dr. Brandt when you find them he gives you extra credit on the exam!).

this professor does not explain the concepts of this class at all. he does not seem to care that he explains things poorly. He's an extremely hard grader and when I went to his office hours. He came off as if I was stupid. His tests are super complicated and do not reflect what he teaches in class. I would not recommend him at all! Take Peterson!

Mostly just review of topics already covered in AP Chem. Descriptive section at end only difficult part, unclear on what's actually important to know. Exams very similar to prior exams he posts and his grading was very soft. Homework and readings entirely optional. Very little required work involved for a chem course.

I enjoy having Dr. Brandt. He's very upfront with you if you ask him a question and likes to help you work toward the answer. Since he's an inorganic chemist and this was a inorganic chem class it's understandable that he was so enthusiastic but it's nice having a teacher teach something he really cares about. I'd reccomend him and the class.

He was terrible. Whenever I would ask any questions, he would treat me like I was stupid. He went way too fast in class and did not slow down to clarify anything. Do not Take Him!

Didn't explain concepts well, notes were sporadic and did not cover what was on the test. He was helpful when I visited him during office hours...but I'm too busy with everything else to get a complete review of the class AFTER class. He went through the material too fast for a 100 level class. Take Jankowski if you want to actually learn.

I don't agree with comments about Brandt, I thought he was a very good professor. He taught pretty well and you could've taken his tests without buying the book. A lot of this class is high school chemistry, and you gain a lot of points by doing the labs.

He gave us alot of notes in class and said that those are what the test would be over.I took chemistry in high school, but I still had to study a ton.It just didn't help. There would be questions on his tests that I had no IDEA where they came from. The final was horrible. The entire exam I had no clue where he pulled it from, nor what the answers were

Spend a lot of time working problems from the book. Will go through lots of problems in class but doesn't explain concepts as well as Jankowski. Patient, helpful if you go to his office.
