I took Lane over winter. He's a really nice guy but he hates tardies. He cancelled an essay and an exam; no final. If you participate and read the textbook, he'll help you out. I never had an A in English until taking this class and I'm a very mediocre writer and wrote all essays the night before. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I took Lane for Spring 2013. glad i took him. Hes a creative guy that can be a little unorganized but he doesn't take it out on his students, he gives u the benefit of the doubt for sure. I received a B. Class was not hard even though im not a great writer. But if you're eager to learn he notices and rewards! Lane isn't that bad- trust me!

I was expecting an A in this class as some of my friends told me he is easy. Even though I put in a lot of effort in the class, I still ended up with an A. Not as great as what other people have told me, I think he is a bit overrated. Don't really like his character though.

This class will be good for you if you are good at sucking up to teachers. Sorry, but this professor is just not my type of professor, its boring and you dont learn much. It disgusts me how some students suck it up to the professor and 'actively' participate in his class just to have the prof's attention. yuck!

The best professor ever. He is clear when he teaches, he is not like other professors who care about the exact percentage you have in each part of the grade... he grades you also for the efforts you did in the class, for the commitment you had, and for how much you care about the subject! He is just the best professor I have ever had in SMC.

Professor Lane is my favorite instructor at SMC. As everyone has stated, it was not an easy class but the material was fairly easy and he was very engaging/interactive which made it very fun. I appreciated his honesty and enjoyed his teaching methods. Not an easy grader, and will chew you out if you are disrespectful and/or late. Love this guy.

he is not understanding and helpful at all. It seems like the idiots always get As in his class but the smart people do not. I wrote a great essay, but just because it did not agree with his personal opinion I got a low grade and that is just one example of why he is bad.

It was a very fun class, Doug is an easy going guy, very approachable, and can talk to him about anything. He's late to class: only because he bikes to campus, so if you happen to be in the first class of the day you will experience this firsthand. Take professor Lane for all the English you can!

Most of all my classes that I have taken at SMC was really fun and amazing. But Professors Lanes class was really boring and he talks a lot. He gives pop quiz's which is a waste of time and you never learn anything in his class. If you think you have to take this class because it's your last semester I wouldn't take it if I were you!

he is a very nice man, and understands the student's need's. he was open minded and let's you express your opinion. even if your idea's are way out there he will relate it to the work, i enjoyed the class, this professor is highly recommended.
