Finding the work online was a little difficult at first because it seems like he uses everything BUT canvas like the rest of the school. He teaches like it is a grad class not an intro class and it is very difficult to keep up with his thought process. It was confusing enough that I didn't have motivation to go to class.

Worst professor I have ever had. I qualify for accommodations, and though I provided proof and reminded him several times, he still refused to give them to me. I took it to the SDS and they said they handled it, but I never once got to use my accommodations. Also, exams hardly covered anything from class lectures. Miserable course.

Exams are never over what is covered in lectures. Lectures are the most boring hour and fifteen minutes of your life. Shull may know what he is talking about, but he presents everything in such a drab matter that will just force you to despise everything about astronomy. Stay away if all you need is credits. Nothing is worth taking this course.

Would be an interesting subject, but the professor is not that good. He doesn't post notes online, so good luck studying for tests. Test averages were very low, but a 75% in the class gets you an A.

I had all A's before this class, and I only did as well as I did because of the curve. The problem with this class was the exams. We went over countless slides in class, and I took notes over everything, but when it came time to study, there was an overwhelming amount of info and no study guide. Avg exam grades were 50s & 60s.

Actually pretty interesting guy to listen to lecture, but you can't enjoy him very much because of the extensive notes that he does not post online and that constantly run the risk of being covered up by JPs or skipped entirely. Tests are almost entirely lecture based, so you must take notes in class. Not bad, but teaching methods need improvement.

Dr. Shull's astronomy course is the most abysmal thing i've ever been apart of. 10/10 do NOT recommend taking this guy.

Needed a non lab science class thought this would be interesting. It was by far the hardest class I have taken so far. Thank goodness for his generous curve at the end.

YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. He doesn't post lecture notes. The exam averages are usually 40s/50s, but you have to take into consideration that a 75 is an A... the lectures were very boring but the actual course in itself wasn't hard.

Lectures of a bit dry, but Dr. Shull is pretty chill. He doesn't post his notes, so you have to show up to get the material. Voyager software lab reports are pretty dumb, but you can knock them out way ahead of time. Exams are you either know it or you don't, but they're doable.

Good communicator and nice guy, but this class is just hard. Works straight from the book so a lot of students didn't show up to lecture, and did fine. Had some trouble getting him to hand back graded homework in first part of semester. Homework is manageable and due once per week. Tests are hard, but he curves at the end of the semester.

It winds up where 75% gets you an A, but at the end of the semester he moves the grades around a lot, so if you have a borderline grade it's hard to know where you stand since he doesn't use D2L. He puts up diagrams on the board which makes it hard to take notes, and notes aren't posted online at all. He can be condescending when you talk to him.

Never used the textbook, never took notes, and been to class about half the time. Anyone with a basic understanding of astronomy would get an easy A. If not, you'll actually have to go to class and take notes. Class averages are around 70s on the test---but a 75 is an A

Do NOT take this class!!! If you absolutely have to, go somewhere else! Physics is a hard enough concept for most people & a terrible, rude, unhelpful professor & useless textbook don't help. Never been this lost in a class in my entire life. Tried everything - tutors, office hours, self-teaching, notes. Had to withdraw & take at community college.

This class is extremely difficult. Test grade average is around a 60%. This class is very interesting if you REALLY like studying the universe, but not the best gen ed to take. If you don't go to class, you will fail. If you go to class and take handwritten notes, that's your best bet. Also, do the assignments each week. They help your grade so muc

I went into this class having never taken a physics class before, not even in high school, and it was horrible. Shull's lectures don't make sense unless you understand what he's talking about. The exams are only 4 questions, so if you're screwed if you don't know them. Exam average is always a 50 and few get an A overall. Don't take his class!

All of the Physics professors at OSU are notoriously tough, but Dr. Shull is probably the most manageable of the bunch. There's not much of a point in showing up to the lectures. Do your homework and make a really well organized cheat sheet for the exams (include major formulas and homework problems) and you'll do fine.
