He's very hard to understand. He does not know how to explain himself. He gives in class work days, but takes up half the class talking about things that have nothing to do with the class. His grading is horrible and if he writes feedback its hard to understand; he doesn't even understand it.

He is a cool person and all but a HORRIBLE teacher. I've never taken an art class and I need drawing for com des. But Golly Randall. I'm not going to be able to draw a photo realistic old lady, he offers no help. Failed all of my portfolios so make sure you put in at least 10 hours into each piece.

Comment:

He gives a lot of time to do the assignments, and gives in-class workdays for each of them. He seems to value talent and execution over concept - and grades accordingly. Take your time or get a C. If you ask for help, he gives great advice. BUT: it takes him 30 minutes to say anything and it's often not even the answer to your question.

I'm a gifted artist, I was in AP all 4 HS years and am frequently commissioned. However, I do not expect to be handed As. I have worked harder in this class than any commissions. Putting 10+ hours into each piece. I've even shown progress. I've received nothing higher than a B- and he never gives any feedback. Actually he ignores me. Dont recommend

Peculiar and interesting prof, he gets a lot of bad criticism from close minded people who don't try, but he is one of the more helpful basic profs. The art world is cut throat, his class isn't but people think they deserve an A for showing up, the class requires lots of outside work, just like all art classes if you can't take it change majors

It's a Basic Drawing class and he grades your work in comparison to others in the class. His standards are ridiculously high and if you can avoid taking him DO IT! Unless you're a really gifted drawer.

Not for Photography majors! No textbook despite it being a basic drawing class, no TRACS, confusing assignments and no actual teaching. He's really good at telling you what is wrong with your work-a terrible teacher for non-artists!

Mr. Reid is very knowledgeable about design and drawing. He is really helpful in answering questions and dealing with problems. He makes a lot of puns, and likes thinking outside of the box. And he is a very patient teacher.

BEST ART CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN!!! Randall Reid is a great teacher and the class is very fun and interesting. All hands-on work, and very few limitations with regard to your assignments. One of the funniest, most down-to-earth professors i've ever had. I'd highly reccomend him. If his class is full, wait til the next semester just so you can get him

DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE NOT AN ART MAJOR! i had no art experience and had to take this for photography. he is a reasonably enjoyable guy but he is only helpful if you are VERY talented even if you ask, his comments only confused me more and his projects are absolutely ridiculous for a "basic" class. avoid him if possible.

Loved this professor. I loved the assignments, even though they were pretty open-ended. I agree with others, he's a hard grader if you're not talented and don't take the work seriously. But I got an A, so it's possible. Mostly work with ink in B/W. I wouldn't say short deadlines like others have; gave antiquate time for each project. Awesome class!

I thought he was a good prof. He helped me when I needed help and was funny, witty, and sarcastic. The deadlines were short and the projects tough but I accomplished a lot of things I was proud of in his class. I would recommend him as long as you care about art and are willing to work.

He failed me for having too many absences. I took him again because I enjoyed the class and it was easy. If you are not a pretty good artist do not take his class. Doesnt relate well to students who arent very talented. Listen to what he suggests and if you dont agree...tell him. Easy to talk to, but not the most excitable person...but hes cool

I feel that he is good at what he does, but not as a professor. He's done some amazing work, but should not be a professor. His grading is unexplainable and he compares your work to the very best in the class. He's very biased and only helps those who have "potential". For those who need help, he could care less!

Prof. Reid's grading system is unexplainable. He happens to be a likeable, quirky, person; but considering that this was a BASIC drawing course, his critiques were unfair and a bit biased. If I had never drawn before, he would make me NEVER want to draw again. I'm pretty sure that everyone in the class makes a C regardless of talent or skill.

I was in AP art the last 2years of high school,i have taken a live drawing class& recieved a Gold Key award 4my peice which was shiped off 2New York.But u would never know that b/c in this class i made a C- yet spend 30+ hours on each project.I make realistic art &he likes the moden crap.i think he is very bias & should not be allowed 2grade art!
