Spends class picking on students and laughing at our attempts to answer his questions. Does daily quizzes for attendance that were about last class. Would have tried a different professor, but was told that he made the test.

Coops is the most unorthodox professor you'll ever meet. His methods seem fatal at first, but eventually become understood. I've never had an instructor with such a straight forward method of teaching. He breaks down concepts in extended periods of time catering to the class. He is by far the best instructor I've ever had ever. #CoopersTroopers

You're going to need to bust your butt for this class. If you want to make an A or B, get ready to make JAVA your life for the next semester. You will not pass if you don't read or attend his lectures unless you're already familiar with the programming language. Good luck. I died but made it out alive with a B.

Dr. Cooper is sharp: his brain works like a quad-core computer with lots of RAM. The course is a challenge, especially for those with no background in programming. Study and practice hard for every exam: you can ace the first exams and fail the last one! Dr. Cooper is a jerk at times, but he knows his stuff and teaches this course quite well.

Professor Cooper is a lot better in explaining Java than Panahi! He really breaks it down for you and makes sure to keep his class engaged. He will ask if anyone is lost, and if it's just one person that raises their hand he will run through it again! I think he does a great job in explaining the material but it's also up to you to practice coding!

Pretty interesting course. The professor has a good sense of humor which kept the class engaged. He's very helpful if you ask plenty of questions. There are two exams which may catch you off guard. Roughly about 90 questions short answer, fill in blank, NO MC. Graded in class assignments-attendance not mandatory but assignments are 15% of grade.

Classes are hard to follow, quizzes rack your brain, and the tests are the hardest tests I've taken so far in my college experience, period. As long as you go into this class with the mindset of studying twice as much as you normally do in other classes, you can make an A. Not having that mindset was the mistake I made, and it dropped me to a B.

Okay, don't get me wrong, I love Cooper. Panahi is a more organized teacher, but Cooper is a great communicator. However, this class is harder than STATS and FINANCE. Tests are the hardest I've ever taken, EVER. You get graded on your knowledge, and you have to be able to process complex Java problems FAST. Practice, EVERY day, and you'll do well.

Mr. Randy Cooper is an intelligent man and knows the subject of the course very well. If he sees that you are trying he will try his best to help but you have to put in work as well. At first he might seem mean but he's a caring man deep down inside.

I was really worried about this class before I took it especially since I have no coding experience. Cooper can be pushy but if you read the book and do the assignments like he says the lectures become very helpful to understand what you just read. It takes work and studying to get it. IF you wanna really learn, be brave & sit on active side.

Splits class into an active and passive side depending on if you mind him randomly calling on you. I found him calling on me kept me more engaged, even when I didnt know the answer. 2 tests, 2 quizzes and an in class participation grade every class. Unless you know Java really well, read the book and practice constantly! Hard, but doable.

He breaks the class into two sections, the active side in which he will call on you to participate and the passive side in which he tends to leave you alone to take in the information. His lectures are informative and somewhat interesting if not hard to understand at times. I had no prior coding experience before this class, but he's a good prof.

Why is he still employed? I highly recommend Hesam Panahi over Cooper.Cooper spends class time harassing students rather than "teaching" which he rarely does.Read the whole book yourself, watch youtube tutorials, and attend tutoring.Very strict on daily grades and quizes. He mentions "partial credit", but ends up giving 0's instead.Take Panahi!

Great professor, very difficult class. I did not like the grading system either. Quiz 1-15%, Quiz 2- 25%, Tes 1-20%, Test 2-40%. I made high A's and B's on Q1, Q2, and T1, but got a C because I did poorly on T2. :/

You can get an A if you work hard on home works, read the book, and go to class. Be sure to attend some office hours as well. Dr. Cooper may seem intimidating, but if he sees that you are working on it, he'll be very helpful. Take Dr. Cooper!

i was expecting worse. material is hard, he has a TA and he is willing to help and is good at teaching java. calling on you in class it keeps you alert, no one ever knows the answer so its ok. you can buy the int'l ed of the book, exactly the same. attendance isn't mandatory xtra credit is given every xtra credit q's come for the previous lecture.
