Comment:
PSYC135 is the most enjoyable and the most difficult class I've ever taken. Do NOT go into this class thinking it is going to be your blow off class. It is incredibly challenging. But Gibbs is such an amazing lecturer. I left the class feeling like I learned something valuable and enjoyable, it wasn't just a class I needed to take. He was awesome.

As a fourth year, I can say that this has been my all-time favorite class I've taken. Gibbs is such a great lecturer and the information is interesting and engaging. The tests are pretty hard, but if you attend class regularly and study, you can definitely pass. The content of the class is definitely worth the effort you are required to put into it

Feelings and Emotions was hands down the best class I have ever taken at UCSC, and I'm a fourth year! His lectures were always engaging and interesting, and I learned so much from his class. The paper and exams were challenging, but if you work hard and adequately prepare , you will get an A. I highly recommend this class!!

Would definitely recommend taking this class! Gibbs is very passionate for this subject and he makes the subject interesting. Don't be mistaken though, this is not an easy class. You have to work for it to get a good grade. He's a hard grader so be prepared! This class works up those feelings and emotions...

This class takes a lot of memorization... midterms and finals consist of essay questions and tons of names and dates of studies. Interesting class, but not easy.

It was an absolute honor and great blessing to have been in Ray Gibb's class. He is extremely passionate in his field of study. He was caring for his students and their process in learning the material and PSCY 137 became easily my favorite class. It was a pleasure learning from a great mind like him.

Gibbs is awesome and funny; definitely do not want to miss lectures, since that's what his exams are pretty much based off of. He emphasizes remembering psychologists and dates (of studies), in addition to knowing implications of studies. You don't need to buy the books to do well in this class.

Gibbs is the best. He's super funny, knowledgable, and enthusiastic about what he teaches. No textbook, optional sections. But lecture is important because he gives you everything you need for the tests. It's also rather writing intensive, but he's awesome. Definitely take a class with him if you have the chance!

go to class, listen when he lectures & skip the reading. Not too good at listening to other people's opinions & seems to be kinda angry.

Basic overview of psycholinguistics research mainly focused on metaphors. Internalize all the relevant studies, they will make or break your grade. The final experiment is a time to get creative, bring your friends to class and mess with their heads. The second book is horribly written, but thankfully the class focuses mainly on the first book.

Going to class is not manditory, but if you don't go, you won't pass. Tests include memorizing and citing examples from class. Not too hard, but be ready to make stacks of notecards. Read the texts for personal enrichment, did not need them for class. Ray is a total santa cruz "dude", super chill and available for help.

Gibbs is awesome. He is really charismatic and interesting. You need to GO TO CLASS. B/c everything comes from his lectures. Cool subject matter too. I really look forward to attending his lectures. (on a side note, his Ta's are terrible. Lacey, esp. She handed out the midterm 20 mins late and completely ignores you when you ask questions: sucks)

This was a pretty interesting class. He gives you the essay questions 1 week before the exam which is pretty good. Word to the wise: write as much as you can on his exams. He wants names and dates on the exams and tons of detail, do that and you'll do great!

Class bored me terribly. He went on random tangents all the time and I feel like I didn't learn a thing, seriously. We used the book he wrote which was boring and repetitious. I would not recommend him.

No doubt Gibbs is cool and the class is chill, but it kind of irritated me that there were only two assignments (a midterm and a paper) that made up your entire grade. No attendance, no participation, just the assignments. This can be a good or bad thing, but I personally found it fairly intimidating. After a while, class also got really mundane.

Easy class, funny prof. He likes to lecture and messily scrawl some key names on the board. Just memorize all the studies he gives you and you'll do fine. Don't waste money on the books he assigns, I didn't read either of them and still got an A.
