Great professor. Knows his stuff, and if you take the initiative to approach him after class he is always engaging and willing to clarify. Grading was straightforward, and though he quizzes often he almost always tells you what questions he will ask on the next quiz. No final exam, just a paper!

the class i took with him was terrible! it was frustrating because i can tell he is smart and knows his stuff but lectures were pretty much just repetition of what the book said almost word for word. the material was somewhat interesting but wasn't presented the way it should have been. the best thing is that he doesn't take attendance . . .

Just because he's older doesn't make him any less knowledgeable about the material--which he knows very well. I was never bored in his class. He doesn't just lecture the material, he relates it to history and real-life situations. Extremely helpful, nice, clear, interesting, and the class actually makes you think. (memorization, no presentations)

Worst class ever. Impossible to understand and so rude! He is really easy to get into an argument with, and once the class is against his opinion, he demands that the subject be changed. The book that he wrote is ridiculous, which makes his quizzes ridiculous because he expects you to know it as much as he does. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

He is a horrible teacher. I skipped his class on a regular basis so I didn't have to listen to him talk for an hour and fifteen minutes. His grading criteria are not clear AT ALL.

Devettere is a nice man, I'll give you that. But I hate his style of teaching. All he does is give you an over-simplified rehash of the reading. I can read and retain, thank you very much. The class was incredibly easy. You don't need to go if you do the reading.

Did my senior thesis with him. Nice guy, very down to earth. Considered my input graciously. Studied some very complicated stuff, no way to make it easy. Gave me a C once for another class, though I deserved it. Used to be a priest from the rumors I heard.

I definitely learned a lot from his class from issues concerning abortion, God, euthanasia... just recent moral issues in general. I got a B+ but I deserved an A but it's all good.
