I've had sandra for many classes, and it's always a chore. She's passionate about linguistics, but unwilling to share information, despite that it's her only job. When asked a question, she often repeats the thing that confused you in the first place. she also makes you get into groups and discuss topics she hasnt taught yet, waste of class time

I really enjoyed this class and she made me appreciate linguistics. she further helped me understand what I was being taught in my other linguistics class. You need to attend the classes as much of what she tests you on is spoken about or taught in her lectures.

Her grading for the "quizzes" is very inconsistent and nitpicky. If you don't use the exact terms she is looking for expect to receive a 0/4 on a question, regardless of whether or not you explain your answer. Make sure you write down what she says in class, the slides just regurgitate the textbook

Has very confusing quizzes (that she obviously makes herself) every week and only gives you 10 minutes and then snatches the paper from you as you are writing. Then complains to the class that some of the quizzes were incomplete and we should try harder. Let alone it takes you a good five minutes to figure out what she is asking for the quiz.

Sandra is pedantic and lacking in self-awareness. Her lectures are miserable because she just regurgitates the textbook (and yet attendance is mandatory). She teaches as though she holds all the knowledge and she believes herself gracious when she shares it with her students.

I've had Sandra for 100A, but enjoyed her much more for this class. Grading was based off of coursespaces assignments and midterms, that were fair in questions and based off of what we learned in class. Missing class isn't an option as she doesn't put her lecture up, other than a few random slides. Overall though, a relatively easy class.

I'm very surprised at all the negative comments on here. She makes you love linguistics and makes you want to take another ling class. She was really nice and her class was very engaging and interesting. I used the textbook quite a bit, I'd definetly recommend buying it. The only criticism would be that she goes through her slides pretty quickly.

If you pay attention to her lectures and do the assigned readings, the class is quite enjoyable and easy. The lectures are not posted but I found if i missed some of the content, the textbook filled in the gaps.

She often just regurgitates the textbook. When asked a question, she will paraphrase what she just said and it won't make an improvement to your understanding. She does NOT post her slides online/gets upset if you try to take a photo. Goes through the slides quickly, so you will miss notes. Notes are unorganized.

Massive workload, with things weighted very oddly and unfairly. lectures were interesting, but missing even a couple will bring down your grade due to the complete inability to get the information you missed. Not very clear answers to questions. The textbook was supposedly mandatory but never used it once. Good LING course for the ANTH requirement

Sandra seems nice. She just has a tendency to treat her class like they're in grade 3. Even handing papers back was like a disruptive throwback to grade school. She would tell us to get into groups, then we had to line up alphabetically, THEN she would hand out our tests. I also felt that she marked tests/HW unfairly. DON'T even miss one class.

Group project that was only worth 20 percent but took up the entire semester. Walked around questions asked and didn't have a straight forward answer for anything. Good linguistics prof but not effective for an anthropology linguistics course.

Sandra was great. She has taught two of my classes (290 & 200) both were interesting and challenging in their own respects. The only issue I had was her reluctance to distribute her slides or certain documents for printing due to copy-write issues. I get that it is becoming a paperless world but sometimes its nice to have a hard copy of the slides.

I really like Sandra, the class was REALLY fun compared to other linguistics classes I have taken. Her coursespaces is top notch, as are all of her technological contributions to the course. She is good for answering questions in class but when it comes to assignments she can become cryptic and guarded. I would recommend, but be ready to work!

Although the class was not an easy one, she is a really great prof. My only complaint is that she doesn't really give straight answer to questions. That said I did learned a lot, I really like that the midterm was written twice: once on your own and once in a group. The grading is very fair, and she seems like she likes her job. I would recommend!
