Dr. Thornton is wonderful! Class was super hard, but ABSOLUTELY possible. She tells you clearly what you need to know & how to succeed in this class (show up)! I used to hate open ended questions, but she prepares you so much with the HW & her lectures. If you don't ace the tests, you didn't do your part. Only take if you're interested in learning!

Truly an amazing professor. Since I started at UH I have experienced less than desirable professors but she is committed to being a great professor and giving a solid foundation of Macroeconomics. Her exams are very straight forward, problem sets will be identical to exam. She grades harsh you will be forced to learn. Don't extrapolate.

Professor Thornton is honestly a great teacher! She is incredibly clear in her letures, taking her time to really explain the concepts. She understands this can be a challenging course, but gives partial credit for short answers on homework and tests. You can tell she cares about helping her students, Id recommend her in a heartbeat.

Master's Macroeconomics. 5 HWs, 20% each, all written. Not a super hard class, but be sure to essentially extrapolate each question on the hw from the slides. Don't go off the rails of the slides too much as you're likely to be docked points. Need to be comfortable with excel. If you're slacking, be prepared to get called out! Thornton cares.

This is by far one of the best professor in the economics department. I highly would recommend her but you will be forced to learn. The exams consist of 8ish multiple choice and open ended questions that are worth a lot. She is an amazing CLEAR lecturer and I encourage anyone to take her. She is a nice lady and really cares about you. Recommend

She is honestly a great professor! However, her grading is ridiculous. If you aren't good at writing don't take this class. Exams consist of some multiple choice and heavy open ended questions. You have to study a lot in order to pass and understand every detail that she mentions in her lecture or you will fail. I don't think i would take her again

Had Professor Thornton for Intermediate Macro. Her lectures were easy to follow and detailed. Quizzes were easy so long as you pay attention. Make sure to be thorough with test answers.

Go to class and pay attention and it should be an easy class. She repeats concepts A LOT (on purpose) so if you pay attention, all the necessary information will be drilled into you. She is a very meticulous grader, but after the first 1 or 2 HW's, you should be able to understand what she's looking for. She provides help for students if you ask.

Prof. Thornton is a great teacher. Yes, test are difficult. Yes, if you miss class often I am sure you will struggle on graded assignments. But she is very clear and thorough when explaining the material. She stays after class and is available in her office if more clarification is needed. I would definitely sign up for any class she is teaching.

This teacher is the hardest grader and professor I have ever had in my entire life! You skip, you fail. Lastly, she will try her hardest to trick you on EXAMS! And if you get a problem right, but don't explain it fully and properly then your getting 0 points.

5 HWs, 2 Midterms, 2 Article Summaries, 1 Paper, Optional Final. Do not procrastinate, attend class, take good notes, and ask for help if needed. This class requires studying & effort. If you understand the material you should receive a high grade. Professor Thornton is very knowledgable & she will make you earn every bit of your grade.

Economic Growth Theory was an excellent class. Very in depth discussion of growth theory and factors leading to and resulting from growth. Professor was very helpful to students and encouraged individual analysis of situations. It had a good pace and wasn't difficult to achieve an A. Highly recommended.

If you need 3334, you should take Thornton. She'll beat it into your head until you get it, and will help outside of class any time. Emphasis is on the quality of work and applying what you know, so you cannot slack at all in this class. Regardless, one of the best instructors I've encountered at UH. Highly recommend, but only if you go to class.

She definitely knows what she's talking about. Her problem sets aren't too difficult, but she definitely expects too much from her students. If you go to her office hours, she will help you. However, say something wrong in class, she will basically call you an idiot. She's very rude esp if you aren't sure about something and ask the wrong thing.

Awesome! VERY repetitive (in a good way), so everything gets drilled into your brain. 4 problem sets (some questions come directly from book), 2 article summaries (easy), 1 writing assignment (basically the same, just longer), 2 midterms (not bad if you go to class & write down the things she talks loudly/lengthily about). And study of course! :-)
