I took this class because I needed 3 more econ credit hours to graduate. No other classes fit my schedule so I just went with this guy and let me tell y'all some. This guy is a horrible professor. He talks so much, he sits and talks for 3 hours and this class just makes me so sleepy and I am a very energetic person. anways dont take this guy.

The reading in intense! There is no book assigned, but he provides reading material which mostly consists of his or peers' published work. Will have primers of 300 pages but will only focus on certain paragraphs (he doesn't tell which paragraphs tho). need to attend every class to understand material. learned a lot after hours of studying&reading!

Professor Hirs is a pretty amazing educator. He clearly cares for the students, but this being an advanced course, you won't get a free A. There are quizzes every week over the material as well as a midterm and a final. Read the material, learn from and participate in the lectures, and give good details on the tests, and you'll be making that A.

If you really want to learn about the course material, he's a great instructor. He's got a lot of experience in industry as well as teaching so you'll learn about the energy economy. Exams based on readings he assigns, closed book/notes. If you follow his lectures, you'll know what readings to focus on. Exams are short answer based.

Prof. Hirs is one of the best professors I have ever had. While his approach is very Socratic, he does give plenty of class notes and lots of time for class discussion. He is very knowledgeable in his field, but don't expect to be given any grade. you do have to work for every bit of what you earn.

Lots of reading. I suggest focusing of the readings from the syllabus, Macavoy, Nordhaus, and any papers he's written. He wants class discussion.

Prof Hirs is a terrible professor. Readings are incomprehensible and expects you to understand energy like its baby talk. Participation is mandatory. 150+ pages of reading each week. Tests are short answer and doesnt tell you which article its coming from so you have to juggle with 30+ articles on test. You will fail Only 4 people passed first test

He is a great professor. His main focus is for the student to understand the content he graciously provides. You will need to attend all classes and participation is mandatory.

Much material to read, all provided. Focal points not obvious. Attendance a must as you will have marginally better understanding after lecture. Hang in there, go to each class, ask questions, participate = 25%. Two open essay midterms 25% each. Five+ pg paper 25%. Don't panic, generous curve. Good, challenging prof focused on learning, not grade

Great lecturer class was fascinating at the end we went to visit a currency exchange floor. Tests are VERY VERY hard, they are open book but test grades will not reflect this, be prepared to STUDY!!!
