Comment:

I really enjoyed his class. He's very responsive to the students. If the material is a lot, and he sees people may be tired, he finds good stopping points in his lecture. He does not treat the class like they should know everything already. Homework and tests are fair and there is plenty of review material. Attendance isn't mandatory but it helps.

I love him absolutely!! The grading seems fair, It is a nice class, professor friendly and responds immediately to questions, His lectures are fun! Homeworks help understand the material better but arent too tough. Definitely recommend to everyone and would take his class again GIven a chance.

Comment:

Took this course in Fall 2016, and Vilalta said it was his first time teaching freshman-level comp. science course. Wouldn't call lectures amazing; his notes were full of useful information, but largely drawn from textbook. If you have question about the class or about the field of comp. science in general, he is available and very easy to talk to.

Attendance does not matter. He's a great professor, but I don't think he's the best candidate for freshman COSC classes. There is no Final Exam; but make sure to turn in your homework on time.

First time learning anything about Comp Sci and he taught to horribly. Every lecture he reads off the slides, and yeah he puts his input on it but there was almost no interactive learning. I have to teach everything to myself by reading the book, showing up to class is pointless since he doesn't even take attendance.

Great professor. Very good lecturer and interesting topic. Tests a bit hard, but he curves appropriately. I found studying the book helpful. Homeworks weren't too bad and the TA we had was helpful. 2 Tests (60%), 2 Homeworks (20%), 1 Project (20%.)

VERY interesting course! Very excellent prof and very fun to listen to. Gave the option of either programming assignments or writing assignments, which was a welcome choice for someone working full time. Exams VERY fair and reviews very helpful.
