Professor Thompson is a standup teacher. I had previously taken his Physio Psych course, which was really tough. But this seminar course was surprisingly easy. There were a lot of readings, but we got to choose the papers that the class would read - giving us some freedom throughout the course. The final was fun - in pairs we got to make podcasts!

I have loved this Hormones and Behavior seminar. He gives us the freedom to pick which papers we want to read, and discussions are usually pretty interesting. He knows A LOT of science in this field, but sometimes seems to doubt himself. If you like the topic and don't mind reading journal articles, take this course.

He's a really nice professor and definitely knows his stuff. His lectures require close attention, and his tests can be tricky, but he's much more clear when he answers questions in office hours. He'll make you work for it (and I think this has made me learn more), but I'm finishing this course hoping to take another from him in the future.

Thompson knows the subject and the class is ok but he is full of himself and in need of sensitivity training. He makes me uncomfortable to be with.

Thompson is not an easy professor. He makes himself available during office hours, but is not very good at explaining things. His lectures are somewhat unclear as well and require lots of notetaking. He's a smart guy, just bad at explaining things.

This class is ok although Prof. Thompson is boring. The tests are not prepared very well. He can sometimes be funny but he clearly needs to be admired and is self-involved. This gets irritating after awhile.

Excellent professor; very helpful in and out of the class. I would recommend this class to another student for sure. Tests are not difficult if you show up for lectures and read the text book.

Smart man, knows what he's talking about, grade does depend on just three tests, non-cumulative, so good professor. just confuses himself half the time

He's tests are hard and he words he questions really weirdly, but your entire grade depends on 3 tests. Classes are super interesting. I looks forward to this class everydaY. They're fun, and the material is great.

Had Rick for Phys Psych as well and didn't like him. He's wonderful in the upper level classes but I think he has to teach the intro ones. He did a great job, but it was tough to write lab reports when we kept failing to find anything conclusive. A good lab to take for the neuro major, not too challengind. Nancy (lab instructor) was a drag though.

Horrible, he confused himself half the time and feels all powerful by asking stupid questions on the exam. Don't take this unless you absolutely have to.

just wants to mess people up with all of his confusing wording on the tests so that he can gloat about how hard his tests are. Not worth your time, take psych with someone else!!

I loved this class. The lectures were really engaging. Thompson sites lots of interesting studies. I've always been motivated to attend this class. Gives basically no work at all. The tests are all based exclusively on lecture. Awesome in office hours. Highly recommend the class!

Psych 101 is impossible with this teacher. the tests are rediculously hard and frustrating, and the lectures are incredibly borin- focusing mostly on the neuro chemical stuff and barely covering some other less scientific aspects of psch. He is a nice man in person but i do NOT recommend this clas

Excellent prof for upper level lab. V. small class (5), promotes lots of discussion, lots of hands on lab work directly related to his research. Passionate about subject. Really engaging. Sort of random topics, but you learn a lot of useful techniques and a good understanding of exp. design.
