He will definitely get you to learn how to write a good essay! He is not easy, but he isn't here to just pass you on, he makes you think and learn. I took a 5 week online course and we had to write an essay every week. They required a lot of thinking, but it isn't impossible if you are smart. His suggested writing guide was awesome!

This class was online and it lasted five weeks, but his grading was inconsistent and tough. Although I completed all the assignments with perfect scores, my grade was sabotaged because of his grading and his inexperience in teaching online classes. Thankfully I survived, but this was the worst experience I've ever had in an English course.

He marks you off on the smallest things. My essay ONLY had a couple pronoun agreement errors and marked me down to a C. Be very careful with how you write. Avoid this man if you need an A. Take him if you want to be challenged.

He is a good teacher. He is a hard grader but he never marks down in your essays for stuff you havn't learned. He will call you out if you are sleeping. He will ask all your questions. I don't intend to take him after the summer but I would recommend him

OMG! Rick Rivera was the worst teacher I have had at MJC. The guy was so full of himself. He was beyond arrogant and was deeply threatened if you were articulate and could express yourself better than him. He had a nasty sneer for his students, and seemed to delight in the fact that most of them did not have the ability to write at his level.
