This guy has zero structure to his class and its impossible to track your grades. Thanks to that, I got academically disqualified. He goes on multiple tangents and will give random assignments. His grades are mostly done with checks on papers, so theres no letter grading and its impossible to calculate your grade. Do not take his classes.

Comment:

Professor Guffey is one of the most kind professors. The only downside is there isn't a spelled out class schedule on the syllabus so if you skip class you'll have no idea what you're missing that day; so make friends! But if you miss he is also VERY understanding and it never impacted my grade. Super easy GE class don't be lazy.

This class is simple and will by far be your easiest class of the semester. No homework other than two 5 page essays. He tells you to buy a textbook, but we never used it, so save yourself the money and dont buy it. Class time goes by fast and he often gives good feedback on essays. Attendance is mandatory, but this class is easy. Hes funny also

Comment:

Funny. REALLY goes off topic though. Offers good feedback and allows revisions for certain essays. Classes? Doesn't really teach much. Kind of just there to assign work and tell stories. Grading is also unclear. Some assignments are graded with checkmarks. Others are forever gone. Never returned. Also doesn't help that he doesn't use BB.

Gives good feedback, but that's it. He wastes time and teaches nothing. We got behind in the second round and he let a class "pet" who didn't even get first story submitted to do it in the second round, then take cuts so he had something to edit for finals. He shouldn't have passed, but I bet he did. Don't take if you want to be a serious writer.

Nice and usually funny guy, and gives great honest feedback on your writing. However, his class was run very inefficiently. We workshopped one story per class because he would derail the conversation and go off topic. He also assigned hundreds of pages of readings that were never discussed. Fun class, but if you're a serious writer, look elsewhere.

He would spontaneously assign essays and readings in class and then forget to collect them. If he did collect them he would never give us any feedback or grades. He doesnt use beachboard so there is no way to know where you stand in the class. He gives no feedback on essays and will not show up to office hours or answer your questions.

Guffeys class is never boring. If you want to take a fun class thats an easy A as long as you do your assignments and show up, this class is for you. Hes hilarious and very smart. If youre sensitive and get offended easily, I guess dont take his class.

Had Professor Goofy for English 404. He is not only funny, but his overall eccentric vitality is engaging and keeps you engaged. Made me excited to come to class and workshop my stories. The textbook is not critical but, if you want to be a serious writer I would recommend them. Overall, inspirational, unforgettable, and insightful.

No need to buy the book from Krishna. I bought it and didn't even use it. He assigns a few reading from it, but we NEVER discussed them in class. Save yourself the money. But he is a GREAT guy, loved going to class and always laughed. He gives amazing feedback and the workshops were helpful to me as a writer...

Hilarious professor. I always had a good time in my class. Shares a lot of stories, knowledge, and fun facts. Several opportunities for extra credit. Gives great feedback on your stories to help you improve (2 stories). Some people may be offended by his humor, but it was refreshing. Workshop style class. Textbook not needed.

Very entertaining but sometimes uses up too much class time telling funny stories. Hardly used the books he had us buy. Willing to help you make your writing better, gives great feedback on everyone's stories. Grade is based on two stories of at least 1000 words and one revision. Lots of extra credit opportunities.

This guy goes off topic sometimes buts it's amusing & hilarious. Class ended 20-40 min. early all the timetoo. I'm sure I would've an A in this class since I always had check pluses & A-B's on all my essays. It's the 15% participation; meaning you gotta be one of those kids in the class that adds onto his jokes. But as a writer, his feedback helps.

Guffey is an amazing English professor. His assignments are really easy, fun and engaging. Homework consists of three essays (4-5 pages long), in class one and a half page essays (front1) and once you are done you are dismissed. He shows films and funny student mistakes that are hilarious but they contribute to the class subject.

The tangents he went off on were pretty funny. This class is just like any other workshop class. Write a couple of small scenes in the first month, then write two short stories throughout the semester. If you get offended easily or can't take criticism don't take this class, actually just stop beginning a writer then.

Professor Guffey can come off as offensive, but just don't take him too seriously. He's also a bit weird but it's actually hilarious if you can understand his jokes. He made what could've been a boring English class fun. I enjoyed this course a lot and would take him again if I could. 10/10 recommend

Guffey was such a great prof! He was so random in class but it always made us laugh. A few in class and take home essays on interesting topics but nothing too hard. He gives back great feedback and you can always email him or visit during office hours for help and he'll help. So so so SO many extra credit opportunities so take advantage!!

4 essays total. 1 in class essay (midterm). The final is the 4th essay which you do at home. You will do a 1 to 2 page essay every single class. You either will hate him or love it, no in between. Extra Credit! Definitely an easy A. Only buy the first book he assigns or look for a pdf, he won't do any assignments for the rest of the books.

Worst teacher of my academic career.. he is not funny, he is offensive and disgusting. If you don't want to learn anything, but get a good grade from laughing at homophobic jokes, then this is the teacher for you. I cannot call him a professor because professors take their job and your grade seriously. Not a class for writers, but for jokers.
