Dr. Parr is an engaging professor. The pop quizzes people are talking about are pretty simple -- if you do the assigned reading for the week before you show up for your Monday or Tuesday class, you'll be fine. He gives quizzes nearly every week, so you can basically just expect them. Make sure to work on your term papers! He won't remind you often.

Dr. Parr is a very sweet professor, who is very knowledgable on what he teaches, which makes it very easy to ask him questions and interact with him in general. I highly recommend taking his class.

Dr. Parr is one of my favorite Professors here. He was very straight forward in what he wanted. There are quizzes every class based on the reading but it was not that hard. I really enjoyed the class and I would recommend it to others.

Comment:

Dr. Parr is such a sweet prof. His tests are definitely lecture heavy but if you take good notes you'll be fine. Some of his views on things are a little old fashioned but overall I really feel like I learned a lot and enjoyed the class. He really loved it when people would participate in class discussion too, but it was not mandatory.

He uses his own published papers as class material. Old school views on social norms. NO attendance policy but you won't understand anything on the test if you don't come to class and take extensive notes. Tests are open notes.

Dr. Parr is great. I had him for Marriage & the Family (SOC2400) and learned so much. I had many conversations with him outside of class and he was always caring and understanding. I even sat with him at chapel once! Overall, great guy. As far as class, it's really not difficult. Lecture heavy, but easy tests and enjoyable reading.

Dr. Parr is one of the sweetest profs, he is just adorable. You will do absolutely fine in his class if you attend every lecture and take detailed notes. The exams are ONLY on your notes that you take, so your grade will completely depend on that. He does pop quizzes on the textbook almost every class, but I really enjoyed the class overall.

Great teacher, I would recommend. The lectures are interesting and there is not a ton of homework. The tests are mostly off his notes, which there are a decent amount.

I took two courses from Dr. Parr both the Intro to Sociology and the Sociology of Religion. He is very well read and capable in Social Work and Sociology. He is expecting allot reading to be completed and wants good quality student interaction(s). He is a previous Pastor and willing to take risks and work hard.

Absolutely terrible experience with this guy. Pop quizzes administered 90% of class periods and he pulls questions from the tiniest and most random details from readings. Expect to have issues if you don't read, and even if you do, pay alot of attention.

Dr. Parr gives quizzes that are difficult to understand and it was unclear how they applied to the material that was being studied. The textbook was not used, except for quizzes and that was only sometimes. The exams were only off of the lectures, so pay attention and take detailed notes. Beware of the first 2 months being all about his worldview.

Dr. Parr was a great prof. I loved all the diverse cultures we looked at and he tried to bring in people from cultures all around the world. Only thing is he puts nothing online so keep your syllabus close.

Dr. Parr is first of all very nice-he made sure to know everyone's name beforehand. He gives quizzes a lot, but they're not too hard, and even if you do poorly on them, they won't effect your grade too much. He always reviews the material from the class before, which helps me remember. The tests aren't too bad either. He's very nice too

Quizzes almost daily. Very obscure information on the quizzes/exams. Requires you to buy a $190 textbook and then never uses it. Puts content on the exams that he very clearly stated would not be on them. Not helpful at all. I asked for help and he wouldn't help me. I worked very hard in the class and still didn't do well. Not a good professor.

Quizzes almost every day, all on the nitpicky, really unimportant part of the reading - not good stuff. Pretty much makes you have a photographic memroy to do good.

I have had Dr. Parr for several classes and have always enjoyed him, despite the fact that he doesn't teach anything in my major. His lectures are well-organized and interesting. He actually cars about his students. The days I missed class, even unexcused, he sent me the handouts and assignments without my having to ask him to do so.

I did so bad in this class, but I still give props to Dr. Parr! I've had him several times, and he's still a great prof and helpful and nice to you, even if you are a slacker. :-)
