If you do not enjoy reading fiction for fun then don't take the class. There's a lot to read and I felt miserable and lost throughout the semester. I thought I was behind in the reading, didn't get to finish half the books but passed with an A. Just take lots of notes in class, skim the book for major quotes and read sparknotes.

Dr. Weldon is an extremely knowledgable professor, and an overall kind person. She treats students with respect and is a very fair grader. Really extensive reading list, so don't get behind - you'll need to know it for the final. Two papers, one oral presentation, web postings, and a final essay exam.

She is a very sweet professor. It is good to read but she tells you everything important about the novels in her lectures. She is very clear and concise. Her grading is liberal, and she never gets upset if you are late. Very understandable and understanding.

Loved her class. The subject is intersting, and she makes everything easy to understand. She's not scatterbrained like some other professors, and she's a more than fair grader. Lot of reading, but there is variety in the books, and she knows the topic inside and out. You won't regret taking her class.

Everything a professor should be. She's easy to understand, provokes class discussion, grades papers fairly, has an intense interest in the subject matter, and she has a sense of humor. The reading list was quite intimidating to me in the beginning but I managed to read all 9 or so novels. If you like reading you'll love this class.

The standard of teaching excellence. Dr. Weldon is the best professor I've had at UH: her lectures are interactive and engaging, she really cares about her students and the material, and grades fairly. You must take this instructor before graduating.

Dr. Weldon is tremendously intelligent, but kind and personable. She strikes a great balance of covering material and asking questions for discussion. She isn't a particularly harsh grader and is pretty accomodating of the, err, less intelligent, but if you are intelligent and you love literature, you will still get a ton out of the class.

Interesting lectures, tests/papers aren't too bad, grades fairly. The only thing is that there are so many novels that it can be rather difficult to keep up with the reading. But her lectures are thorough and make up for what you can't get to.

I hate english classes, but this class was different. She made the class interesting. Tests are all essay, and the final is a 3 hour essay (you choose 3 or 4 questions to write an essay on). I struggle with writting papers, but I still ended up with a B+ in her class.

Dr. Weldon is one of the diamonds of UH. She maintains a high standard of scholarly excellence in her class. We had many interesting and informative lectures, but it is her mastery of drawing out students' knowledge that is the source of her teaching genius. She demonstrates her brilliance in a quiet, unassuming manner.

Dr. Weldon is an excellent teacher and lecturer. One of the few profs who gives you feedback on your papers instead of just an A. Super intellegent, gets impatient with the stupid people in class sometimes. Take notes and read and you'll be fine.

Great teacher. She seems to be bored with her own brilliance, but it still impresses students! Fairly generous grader, heavy reading (its a lit class), reasonable assignments. Very little pressure, great lectures and discussions. Take her before you leave if you're an Eng maj. or you'll miss out.
