There was a lot of info that probably seemed useless - but it was interesting none the less. She seems intimidating, but shes old-fashioned. Also, go to lecture - I know her voice is soothing, but youll learn so much if you stay awake and take notes. Put a hand lens on it!

Paleo is a class where you drown yourself in tons of information in order to pass. Dr. Maddocks's lectures are pointless. Almost everything you'll see on tests is written somewhere on her slides or lab packets. I got a B- (lec) and a B+ (lab). To pass: cram from Day 1 and never stop cramming. You'll forget everything later but at least you passed.

So far the hardest class I have taken. Lec test are multiple choice and lab test are short answer. Keep up with the lab and memorize EVERYTHING in the handout. You will not make it if you don't study the fossils. Avoid at all cost. If you can't, be sure your schedule is lite cause all your time will be consumed by this class. Put a hand lens on it!

Comment:
Do not take any other difficult classes with Paleo. The lectures are horribly boring, & the lab is even worse. Go to every extra lab. She is actually quite nice, & funny, and wants her students to be successful, but she is just not very welcoming. Must read and study everything possible. My test average was a 57 and ended up with a C- in lecture.

My test average was a 68 but ended up with a B- in the class, if that tells you anything about the curve. She clearly knows her stuff but she can't hear very well so you can't ask her questions in class. Very prompt about posting exam grades, which I appreciate. Final is cumulative but weighted the same as the first 3 exams.

If you are a Geo major, you are required to take Paleobio. This was honestly the most mentally taxing class I had taken this semester. Lectures are BORING and you are not required to go. 3 Tests and a final, 100Qs and Qs can literally be anything on her powerpoints. There is SO much material to go over so I recommend studying more than a week befor

One of the worst professors I have ever had in my life. I made the stupid decision of still taking her, even after reading the warnings given here. Do NOT take her. I studied so hard(I had a strong background in geo 1, got an A ) and I still got a D+. Gives 3 tests, 1 final (drops the lowest grade). She will straight up ignore you ask a question.

Class is a Geology major prerequisite. Don't take unless you must. I enjoyed it, but many did not. It's a tough class, be prepared to study extensively. Book is interesting, but not necessary, all the info is on blackboard. No electronics in class, no sitting in lab. Most TA'S are helpful. Go to extra labs, it reflects in your grade.

I do not recommend this class to anyone unless you're a geology major, then you have to take it! I also recommend that you don't take any math ,physics or major Geo classes with it. The time spent studying is equivalent to three classes! Test are awful (Unstructured) I got a D. See if you could transfer it by credit. before 3.23 -2.41 GPA after

Hard class, study well or fail. If you fail the first test, just drop, the test only get harder. This is an information intensive class, but everything you need to know will be on one of the slides that she may, or may not go over in class. This is one of 2 weeding classed for Geology, not a good elective class for anyone else.

I am normally pretty generous when rating professors but I sadly have NOTHING positive to say. You are not allowed to talk, sit, or TAKE NOTES in lab which is ridiculous! I would NEVER recommend this professor to anyone. Average grades were 45-55. Take someone else!!

Intro to Geophysics, Intro to PDE, Geol Field Methods, and petro; this was my hardest course this semester. If you do not have a solid geology foundation, you will fail. Tip: know all figures. She is very nice but her teaching style didn't fit with me. Good luck

Worst class I've taken in college so far. on the first test i study two days prior and got a 60 the second test i studied a week straight and got a 50 & the third test i studied every day since we started going over the material and got a 48. THIS MAKES NO SENSE. the slides are too extensive to pick up anything. Don't take her.

This class is no joke, but it can easily be managed with a little time and some HARD WORK. You can not go into Dr. Maddocks' class and expect to get an A by just showing up. Do the "optional" homework, read the chapters, study the powerpoints and go to class. She does not hand out A's, you must EARN them.

Where to start.... I feel sorry for anyone else who takes her. She was hard but possible to get through. Do not take this class lightly. You don't need lectures, but go so she knows your face, labs are mandatory! Do not ask her questions!! Study slides mainly, grades will be bad but she curves. Try hard and don't give up!! I made it, so will you

It is obvious that she knows the material very well, however, she cannot communicate it to students in class. Studied for test 1 and got 45%, didnt study for test 2 and got 49% (kinda sad really). She only lectures on 1/4 of the material that's on the test. She doesn't use a mic when he lectures, so unless you're in the front row, you wont hear her

Yes the material is very hard. But she definitely makes it harder. In lab she doesn't let you write anything down or even talk to anyone else. She only teaches in class about 20% of the material on the test. Towards the end of the semester she just stops showing up to lab to answer questions. you can barely hear here when she does teach.

This is the most boring class you will ever have to take in the history of mankind. If you are not a female, don't even attempt to ask her a question. The material is dull and the lack of respect between teacher and student is fully apparent.
