Comment:
She ultimately expects you to speak about her favorite things, or you will not receive above a B. She often embarrasses a student who is speaking in front of the class, in order to "teach" them, but serves no benefit to the student, and often just discourages them. I found that she was fairly close-minded and would not give a grade higher than a B.

When you take her class, just be aware that she's going to expect perfection from you while your presenting, she loves to correct you while you're presenting and that can throw you off, she's a hard grader with the presentations and loves to point out every single mistake that you've made, don't take her unless you're up for the challenge

She's a nice person, but a very tough grader. Not that speaking in front of the class is a problem for me, she's just very difficult to please especially when it comes to the outlines. Just expect to write a lot of outlines for speeches and present them to your classmates.

The WORST professor I have ever had at Baruch. She teaches through fear and embarrassment, hoping the negativity will impact her students to do well. Expect to be called out on every tiny mistake in front of the entire class, and expect her to try to embarrass you. Do NOT take her class if you expect anything above a B (or respect).

Critiques everything the speech outlines. 4 presentations, informative, demonstration, persuasive and final speech is either informative or persuasive. Gave A once, either B+ or B-, per presentstion. Managed to get an A in the class. Controversial grader, said she prefered a foreign student to use "um" instead of "eh" when presenting, but ok class.

Really helpful when giving feedback for speeches. barely any homework. 4 speeches the semester. Her class helps you become a better speaker. May seem strict, but it really nice.

I looked at the comments here while taking this course but honestly, she is not as bad as people make her sound. She is really clear about what she wants in her speeches and you really just have to follow her outline. And if you've been taking notes (which she puts on the board), then you'll get an A on the final test. Don't come late and thats it.

If you can avoid taking her, do. I don't know of any good COM 1010 professor, seems like Baruch doesn't care much to get good speech professors. No good criticism, if she likes your speech topic you will get a good grade basically. One test that comes out of no where, I have no idea how I got a B in her class if I got a D on test. No good, avoid.

Non-constructive comments are just a fraction of the problem. She did not grade her students objectively. She always twisted her comments inconsistently to justify giving B's, making no one a better speaker in her class. A lot of authority in her lectures and would not accept alternative legitimacy apart from herself. That said, I rest my case.

There's a final exam for her class, she gives topics and you have to write everything she ever spoke about during the semester on that topic. Makes a lot of non-constructive criticisms. Impossible to get marked excellent for good qualities. Would not recommend her AT ALL.

She knows her stuff -- she's been spitting the same words out for God knows how many years -- and she'll do it with rehearsed clarity. That said, if you want to be personable, if you want an honest critique, if you want to ask questions or voice your opinion, if you want to know how you're performing outside of your grade sheet -- don't count on it

Not the greatest professor. Way too critical for an introductory class - everyone was already nervous enough. There is a hump you have to get over when you learn to speak in front of people, she makes this damn near impossible for some students. If you don't care about getting a B, pack some vodka, and bite your lip, its not going to be fun!

4 presentations ("final" presentation included) 1 7-8 min demonstration, 1 5-6 min informative, 1 5-6 min persuasive, & either info or persuasive for the last (your choice). she takes attendance every time & dropped 1 kid who missed 5 times. Other than that it's an easy class- got B's on every pres except for the 1st (A) and got A- for the class.

The only letter she knows in the grading alphabet is B. Work hard or not- you will always get a B,+ or - unless your born with speech comm skills, you MIGHT get A-. Aside from the grading, I still enjoyed her class.

I did not like her from the moment I stepped into class. She looks incredibly mean. Basically taught off book which I did not read at all. Don't even bother working hard on the presentations. I usually like presentations and worked really hard on all 3 of them and still got a B, my friend didn't and he got a B. Waste of time.

What a ....not only is she a ****, but also jelouse(always looks at what you are wearing if you are a girl). Always faking to be so nice, gives you a hope, and then ruins your GPA with a smile on her face (it's a pleasure to her)

I would NOT recommend this professor. If you're a female, and/or have even the tiniest HINT of an accent don't expect a good grade. Running your topics by her ahead of time SEEMS like a good idea-she okays it then SHOOTS you down after you present for poor topic choice. Don't expect ANY USEFUL feedback. Watch your scores-she tends to "MISS" things!

Would not recomend. She is very unfair; gives A's only to white-American students. If suspects a foreigh accent gives only B's or C's(don't even hope for any higher). With the mid-term the same story-even if you give the most complete and fullest answers out of all class but you happen to speak with an accent, she will not give you nore than C.
