Professor Barilleaux was the most helpful professor I've had this semester, easily being one of the nicest people I've met at Miami. You absolutely need to read the assigned reading for each class. He's always willing to explain how you can better your papers and improve your grade in his class.

Brilliant political mind and professor. His requirements for papers often conflict, but he always grades papers once for no credit and then you resubmit the edited paper for credit. Super easy A if you can follow directions and satisfy the requirements. There is a lot of reading, but the course was completely manageable without reading.

The best mind in the Political department. Unbelievable amount of reading and work, I never like school but this class changed everything. I have never truly enjoyed a class like I did this one. This class made me want to become a lawyer.

Dr. Barilleaux is such an amazing professor. His class is definitely hard, but he wants you to do well. his lectures are truly fun to listen to, and truly fun to have a conversation with. He will give you detailed feedback on any assignment and always has his students in mind. You will learn a lot from him. Highly recommend him

Prof. Barilleaux is a pretty decent professor. As long as you take notes on his outlines and study those notes for the final, you will do well. Two books are required for his course and one paper over the 2nd book. There are weekly exercises given and as long as you complete them and read the material they're over you will do well. Great class.

Dr. Barilleaux is honestly a really great professor. Some of his lectures may get boring at points but he adds in pieces that are funny to keep you paying attention. If you show up and actively participate/engage in class, then he seems to look more kindly on your grade at the end of the semester,.

Dr. Barilleaux is the best professor I've had at Miami. Don't let everyone on here saying the class is hard scare you. Dr. Barilleaux is very clear about his expectations. Random quizzes are given, but as long as you do the readings they're not too difficult and the lowest 3 grades are dropped. Even if you don't get an A, you'll learn a ton.

Dr. Barilleaux is my favorite prof I have had at Miami thus far. As a political science major, I have jumped at the opportunity to take further classes from him. He is a really great man and wicked smart. Pop quizzes on the readings are frequent, but not challenging if you did the assigned reading. He is the best.

Dr. Barilleaux is a great person and professor. You will learn a lot him! My greatest respect for him is that he truly cares about his students and can still hold them to very high standands. He is a very hard professor and grader, but will help you if you ask for it. If you are up for a good challenge, Take him, you will learn a lot!

Will look at papers before you turn them in, if you ask. Only 4 papers (longest is 8 pages, others are below 3), a midterm and a non comprehensive final. For Plato and Aristotle: use Sparknotes (you understand more and have to read less). Have assigned quizzes that are easy, if you read, especially if you use Sparknotes. No textbook, but have books

Loved this professor and this class! Material is super interesting and Barilleaux has encyclopedia-esque knowledge on all the topics. Gives great essay feedback and is a lot of fun to engage in political discussions. As long as you read and go to class, you will likely succeed.

His lectures are great. He allows his vast knowledge to pour out and he tells great stories that you can't find many places. His tests are difficult because of their short answer format. He grades his papers very harshly but does give clear guidelines, although I did feel that he favored a certain style of writing that was difficult to mimic.

Professor Barilleaux was an amazing professor. The classes were very long but he seemed to try to do his best to keep everyone's attention. The tests are VERY hard. It is a lot of studying and a LOT of reading! If studying and/or reading isn't your strong suit, I would suggest another professor.

I wasn't at all interested in the class, but RJB made it manageable. Reading isn't too bad once you get past Aristotle/Plato. Midterm is easy if you take good notes, and I expect the final will be the same way. Writing aspect of the course is challenging, but I feel I've gotten better at writing from it.

This is a tough class, but he warns you from the start it won't be easy. Barilleaux is a great guy, funny during lecture, and acknowledges that the material can sometimes be dry. Readings are required, you take daily reading quizzes that count as 20% of your grade. Two exams and a final that are incredibly specific about lectures and readings.

has a very unique exam structure that is difficult to study for. he does provide loose study guides. expected to memorize 30+ case outcomes. lots of memorization. must do all assigned readings because there is a quiz every day. i had to devote 12+ hours to studying for exams. definitely the hardest class ive ever taken at miami but learned a lot

This class was one of the hardest classes of my college career. The subject matter wasn't too difficult but the amount of material that the exams covered was absurd. He is also a very difficult grader on his papers and gives a ridiculous amount of guidelines. Save the headache!

Very knowledgeable but his expectations are absurd. Exams cover 200+ pages in a text book and hundreds of slides (does not tell you a single thing or give study guides about exams). Quizzes every single morning. Unless you are a governmental genius or want to devote every second of your day to studying, take a different professor.

Go to class, do ALL the readings (take good notes), ask questions, go to office hours, you'll do fine. Dr. Barilleaux is one of the most intelligent professors I've had at Miami. The exams tend to cover readings more heavily than you expect. Seriously, just pay attention and you'll do fine. Take this class!!!!!
