Prof. Garvey really knows what he is doing, he is really nice and explains all the concepts. He talks VERY FAST, so read over the powerpoint in detail before class and try to read over the book chapter in order to get a better understanding before class starts. Overall, not a hard class, remember to do the assignments and the hmws, the key for an+A

Comment:

Dr. Garvey is a nice guy and can be somewhat lenient on the exam grading. However, the exams are very difficult and he does not explain the material well in lectures. There is also a portfolio project that is impossible, but if you manage to do well it will help your grade. This is a very hard class, but you probably won't fail.

Dr. Garvey is extremely boring- you could teach yourself better than he teaches you. The portfolio project is practically impossible and he himself could barely explain what we had to do for it. Tests are rough, but hard to fail.

Dr. Garvey does not seem passionate about teaching. Although he had a great knowledge of the material he was teaching, his lectures were very boring. He did go through and explain to us what would be on each exam though. The portfolio project was impossible.

I found this class very useful, interesting and practical with real business world applications. Professor Garvey does a very good job of teaching and material and keeping the class interesting. Three projects were very useful and applicable and related well to the classroom material taught. Three tests were fair with the last one the easiest.

Comment:

Ryan Garvey is a good finance teacher. At the beginning of class you will feel a bit overwhelmed but in the end every thing fits together and makes sense. You really learn alot in his class just make sure to keep up with the work.

He sometimes has a hard time conveying message, but if you need help he is always more than willing. If you are willing to put the time in to learn the material tests are fairly easy. Class average for the semester was a "B."
