His course was hard, not gonna lie. But it was pretty straightforward. You did he quizzes online before each class and had a lab report due each week. As long as you turned everything in on time, though, I was able to get an A. You HAVE to study for his tests. Have to. Cos he's tricky with his questions.

hes not a good teacher. I am a biology major and i was really interested in this class but i could not keep up with all the useless and time consuming work. so many quiz questions and extra work, i worked so hard and could not keep up. he talked down to me and gave me an absence on my first time being late at only 15 min for an 1 1/2 hour class.

Do no take this course unless you have 25+hours a week to commit to it. Tavormina does provide all the necessary information and is clearly an expert on the subject but there were over 350 questions to review for one 50 question test. The level of questioning is extremely complex. Dont't do it.

seriously the WORST class ever!!! I came into this class with a 4.0 and struggled to make a B! 90% of my time was spent doing work for this class! you teach yourself EVERYTHING. my class started out with almost 40 people and only 10 finished. prof makes you feel stupid in class and rarely teaches you the material

You do not need the buy the textbook for this class, everything is on Blackboard. If you take notes when you do the homework/prelabs and go over those before tests, you will do fine. Yes, it takes a lot of time -- there's a lot of material to learn. If you don't completely understand the information you're being tested on, you'll fail. Go to class!

This class was the worst class ive ever taken. The professor is not helpful whatsoever, and gives you little else to go on except notes. The exams are about 60% of your overall grade and basically the study guide is to study the entire book. This class is designed for students fail.

I was used to taking 16hr + semesters, and a few summer ones too. So I decided to take a break and only enroll in 11 hrs, including BIOL 1408 with Prof Tavormina. I'M NOT A BIO MAJOR so I thought I'd get an A after working hard as usual. Nope, B after dedicating about 90% of my time to this class!

you pretty much get to teach yourself in this class. dude's long-winded but he just talks a lot about bla bla bla and then you look at power points on your own computer. and this class takes up about ninety percent of my time I allocate towards academia and it's not worth it. Sal's hawt though, I like his weird little weasel voice. it's secksy

Awful professor. This class is designed to fail students. Highly dependant on technology with regularly goes down. Labs are to be dreaded. His voice is camparable to Screech's friends from Saved by the Bell...

This was the most frustrating class I have ever taken. Dr. Sal doesn't care about students understanding, he just wants to make it hard. RUN RUN RUN!! And never look back. I have a 3.7 GPA and I am struggling getting an A. There is so much work. He acts as if we don't have other classes. Do yourself a favor, don't sign up for this class EVER

If you are enrolled in this class I have one word of advice. RUN! This is by far the worse professor i've ever had. You can study your a** off for this course and still FAIL. Its not worth your time. You will regret all the time, effort, and sacrifice you put into that big fat F you get at the end of the semester.

Comment:

"Are Science and Religion Compatible?"and "Should Evolution, Natural Selection, and Intelligent Design All be Given Equal Treatment in Science Classes?" are the titles for the distance learning paper. This is for a biology class based on David Attenborough's "Life on Earth". These are obviously essays for philosophy and not science. RUN FAST

He requires a CD instead of a book for this class. The CD is horrible and out of date for today's operating systems. The information needed for the labs is difficult to find and unclear in the material provided. Overall he is unhelpful and makes you feel stupid for asking questions. This class is WAY too time consuming for an entry level class.

Dr Sal is not a very nice guy. He is not helpful to his students, and I get the impression he is there just to recieve a paycheck. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!

Did not like this professor. Wasn't able to explain things in simpler terms. Just re-read his powerpoint slides if there was a question and was unwilling to give answers to the 5-page practice quizzes which were crutial study guides for the HARD tests. DO NOT take this professor!

Dr Sal is a nice guy and tries to be helpful. Great lab teacher. Lectures are pretty dense and boring. Quizzes are easy way to rack up points-IF you put the time in. Lecture tests are very difficult and tricky.Be prepared to put in a lot of time for this teacher.

True he has put up practice quizes and the power point slides online. However he doesn't give the answers to those quizes so you are unable to correct your work. He gives in-class quizes before covering the material in class. He does not accept late work (not even 10 mins late.)
