Comment:
He will give you very basic lectures on subjects pertaining to the given chapter. However when it comes to the tests, it will seem very alien. Rather, he will test you on how much conceptual information that you must know by heart. No matter how much you study the lecture notes, you will still find it very difficult to pass the tests.

He is funny and likes to tell his students about his personal experiences in labs and stuff, however I really hoped he could offer more extra credit. My class averages for this semester was really low. Don't recommend him for Chem 1110, he expects you to memorize a lot of things in a matter of days before his exam. And his exams are difficult.

I had Nickolaisen for Chem 3500 (Quantitative Analysis) Lab. He can be a bit gruff, but is helpful when you get past the yelling. Basically, he yells because he cares. If you can't handle that, take a different professor. I would absolutely take classes from him again.

This class is hard. no professor could make this class easy. His lectures are brief and sometimes overexplains things that he likes. His tests are rough and you have to study the material very thoroughly. People don't average very high on the tests or the lab reports so there will be a curve, but this isn't gen chem so don't count on it.

Loved Nickolaisen's quantitative analysis class! Very knowledgeable about the material. His lectures were pretty thorough and gave you the fundamental knowledge needed (although you need to know how to extrapolate that information to different scenarios on test problems). Tests weren't too easy, but they were fair questions

Took him during summer school so here is my little spiel. He is an ok prof & knows his stuff but bad @ explaining things! So use the book to teach urself. Tough grader in lab reports! I recommend to do two labs at a time to get ahead regardless of lab schedule. Study hard and long his tests are really hard. Good luck :/

Dr. Nickolaisen is not the best. He grades till the very end and says "i dont know" when asking for a grade. He's lazy too. Don't take

I wasted time by not paying attention to lectures and trying to learn from the book only. Big mistake. PAY ATTENTION TO EXAMPLES IN CLASS for midterms. I got F, B-, and probably A- on exams and still got an A with a B average total lab score. DONT choose a boring research proj. Make sure prof KNOWS YOU. Prepare and work fast. Ignore friends in lab!

I've never had a professor whom, by admission, doesn't care how you do, even when asked, politely, for help. If you fail on an exam or report, you will never know why, and he will never take the time to assist you finding the error. If a student asks for an additional example on a concept, he refuses to explain. Never hated a science class before

Relatively easy due to the giant curve given in the class. Do not get discouraged by the low midterm grades. Lab was fairly easy. He allows you to resubmit labs to earn a higher grade.

Very fun class and helpful professor for lecture and lab. Tests were the toughest Ive seen but the final curve helps everyone. Basically make friends with him and your lab/lecture peers and you will pass.

He explains thing well, all the notes are on power point and he posts them online. You have to go to class to fully understand the notes and sometimes he adds things in. Lecture helps with understanding lab also so go to lecture. His tests are not impossibly but they are challenging. Study hard.

Dr. Nickolaisen is one of those instructors that you either love or hate. His exams are challenging, but you should be ok by merely studying the class notes. He collects homework and there's no quizzes. Scatterbrained most of the times, but he knows what he is talking about. Wildcard.

I took him for Chem 102. I did like him as a lecture prof as he knew what he was talking about. His midterms are difficult & some of the conceptual stuff isn't all covered in lecture but its bc he expects you to read the book. You have to read the book and do more than the 5 hw questions to do well. Study hard and you can do well. curves at the end

Attendin lecture is not mandatory but very important becus a lot of stuff he cover ARE on the exams. His 2 exams are bit hard.Final included 2 part:a normal exam and a timed-test(extremely difficult).Contrary to what others said,I think his teachin ability is quite good.Knows his stuff well.He curve a lot at end so it make up for class difficulty.

Dr Nickolaisen is one of my favorite professors. He's so laid back. His lecture can be scattered but if you show interest and pay attention you'll do fine. He doesn't curve his exams but he does on the final grade. Smart man who knows his stuff.
