Professor Scaiola is great! I came into Italian 201 worried about where I was placed, but it was a pleasant surprise to be in her class. She will help explain concepts to you and make sure you really understand! Be prepared to participate but she won't judge and makes it feel fun to participate.

Honestly, if you have a heartbeat you can pass this class. Skipped at least once a week and still managed to get an A. Tests are easy and she gives a study guide that is literally the test. Beware however scheduling for Italian 102 because if you don't take her again, you will be extremely behind.

Absolutely loved this class! She really wants students to learn the language. She is very patient and very willing to work with you until you understand the material. Beautiful person inside and out. I had to work hard because learning a new language is not easy, but the course in itself is fun and the time goes fast. One a my best professors!

I had Serena for 201 & 202.. She's nice, friendly and easy going. Very little homework to turn in.. and she accepts it whenever you feel like handing it in. I learned a ton, and got A's on the tests with just a little bit of effort. Gives extra credit for going to any event/presentation that is related to italian.

a very elegant and fun lady! she's from italy, loves it and brags about it a lot, but it makes you appreciate what you're learning! the tests are simple and there's even a review test the class before thats almost identical. homework is rarely graded/collected & there are a couple of 5pt quizzes. i never wanted to miss class! take her if you can!

Pretty easy, very nice, very willing to help, tests are easy. She really enjoys class participation. Tries to make class fun, and is fairly young herself so she isn't too out of touch with the students.

Attendance not necessary. No in class tests required, and quiz answers are given before quiz day. You can be in a coma and pass this class. She is nice enough but seems interested in what other teachers do, interested in our personal lives, not what we learn. Tries too hard to be cool and impressive. Easy class but I am let down.

I got an A. I never read the book. I skipped at least once a week. I never took one exam. I did do extra credit, sneak quizez and movie and pizza nights tho. I can say spaghetti and that's all. But I got an A. She's easy and out there, head not in it. EASY A.

Practice tests were exactly like exams, so studying isnt necessary. Lot of extra credit project and quizes that other classes dont get. if you dont get an A here you must be dumb. I didnt learn but I did get an A.

Class was fun, rarely boring. Gives review packets before tests - tests are EXACTLY like them. Study the review packet and you'll do fine. Goes over homework most of the time. Always offers help and answers all questions. WONDERFUL teacher! Loved Her!

Two of my friends got As and my friends are both morons. What does that tell you? My A is meaningles because I don't know anything and am not going to cut it in more advanced classes unless I cheat my way through. Her "teaching" style not beneficial for learning the basics because it does not encourage learning. I expected more from a university.

I had Serena last semester and did really good. She wants to be cool and gave us tests and answers so we'd do good and we did. But this term I had a different professor and didn't do well. I did not know anything! Taking the easy way hurt me bigtime in a legit class. Wish I had not cheated from the start and not cheated myself out of learning.

Serena rocks. She is so helpful, and really wants her class to get it, even when they are a bunch of morons like my class was. Understanding, forgiving, and a really nice woman. The best choice for Italian at JCU in my opinion.

She explains everything very thoroughly, so there is no excuse not to do well in her class. She moves through the material at a reasonable pace, and the homework assignments are manageable. A very good choice if you are thinking about taking Italian. (Take it, it's a great language!)
