Comment:
Dr. Tipnis was ok. He's a very intelligent man, but can come off as arrogant. Not always willing to slow down the whole class for a few students who don't understand the material, but he's very helpful if you talk to him during his office hours. Tests are tough, but he tells you exactly what will be on them. Getting a B is doable, an A is difficult

Dr. Tipnis is very informative but really tough! He expects so much out of his students, but he is honestly one of my favorite math professors here! Take the time to see him in his office hours with specific questions and concerns and that will help you to get to know him better! The tests are very difficult and expect to be challenged.

very knowledgeable, and well structured lectures; however he moves kind of fast and expects students to understand and pick things up quickly. DO NOT FALL BEHIND THE COURSEWORK. Generous curve on final grade

Dr. Tipnis will make you earn a good grade in his classes. He is not an easy professor, but he is very intelligent and will help you as long as you seek his help. I got a B in the first class I took with him, but then took an elective with him because I learned so much from him, and got an A in that class. Great professor overall.

He is a very smart man and knows a lot. The class can be very confusing, but if you do the homework and ask questions when you don't understand you will be fine. Also, he gives partial credit on tests which is really helpful.

Hated him... and was happy to receive a C in his class which is saying something because I'm a straight A student.

All the financial turmoil we've witnessed since 2008 is a byproduct of preferring calculus over statistics. When I learned calculus, I wasn't taught to "understand" it. It was taught as a set of tools. A derivative is essentially the slope, an integral is essentially the area under a curve. Class with this professor is lifeless and uninteresting.

Dr.Tipnis is by far my favorite teacher in the math department. His classes are hard, but he's *very* good at teaching the material, and is always willing to help anyone who needs it. Also, he speaks clear english, which unfortunatly can't be said for quite a few other department members.

Dr. Tipnis is a very mean math teacher. He knows his stuff, though. He'll criticize you whenever you ask a question--he hates reviewing material. Overall, the class was on the difficult side, lots of homework, lots of info to digest. I squeaked by.

A word to the wise: study up for your first test in his class - it's very difficult. The class average was 54/100, but he gave us a 10 point extra credit quiz to boost it up. After that, it gets much easier, with average test scores around 80. The amount of study you'll put into this class is quite high. Difficult class, but good teacher overall

Very good teacher, but VERY challenging. You will learn ALOT from him, but his tests are extremely hard! I got my first B in this class, but I was happy with it because he makes you earn it. If you want an A he isn't the teacher for you, but a B is very attainable. (75% and up is a B) Overall good professor if you like a challenge

His tests are near impossible, and he's really boring. He makes you feel stupid for asking a question or giving the wrong answer, and then never does give you the answer. It's virtually impossible to get an A in his class, although a B is attainable with a lot of work. The only good thing about him is that his English is decent.

Although I received my first ever C in his class, I feel like I learned more in his class then I would with an easier teacher because since his tests and quizzes were challenging they made me work harder. His notes in class were unorganized and hard to learn from so be prepared to teach yourself. However he is always willing to help his students.

Overall I felt that his class was worth taking. His tests were very challenging, but I feel that i learned a lot more in his class than I would have if I took it with an easier teacher. Tipnis has a habit of insulting or talking down to his students, but dont take it personally and you'll do fine. An overall capable professor.

His nature is very duplicitous. I've spoken with him outside of class. He was very cordial and all around good guy. However, I have spoken to classmates. Some of them have not found any help in his office. He knows his math, but his criteria for who he is or is not cordial to is somewhat a mystery. Finally, He makes his class VERY challenging.

I took this class about a year ago. He was not helpful at all. In class, he would tell you to come to his office hours to answer questions. In his office hours, he would make you feel stupid by talking down to you. Though he curves his grades slightly, his tests don't reflect what was taught in class. He is a great 175 teacher, but TERRIBLE at 147

I completed two courses with Dr. Tipnis. He is an effective, helpful, compassionate teacher. He makes himself available on weekends and evenings via email and his office door is always open during the day. Additionally, his ability to relate various combinatorial subjects: LP, game theory, graph theory, etc is amazing. He is truly outstanding.
