Comment:

I took Dr. Vails Eng1302 class and would never recommend it. Her expectations for a college freshman are way to high. There is a definite communication barrier, so even though she is willing to meet, it doesn't help much. The last "lens" essay is 35% of your grade, extremely challenging, and something a college freshman should not have to do.

Comment:

American Lit is a super tough class, but Dr. Vails helps as much as she can. She uses this thing called "Leadership Points" and at the end of the semester you can exchange them for up to 25 points added to your midterm, final, and main essay. It's extremely hard, but she helps a lot.

Comment:

Vials was pretty awesome. If you dont make an A in this class its because you didnt take advantage of the loads of extra credit she offers. There are 4 essays of which you are able to revise all 4 essays (given you do her extra credit) she is extremely caring and gives great feed back. Lots of daily grades but its nothing hard. Easy A.

Lots of extra credit provided, if willing to do it. She is always there if you need that help and doesnt make you feel stupid for asking questions. 4 major essays but the rest of the class is lecturing, writing, proof reading and essay. Super easy if you do the work and participate.

She is an amazing lecturer and really helpful if you are lost. She comes in extra hours if you need help on a paper and goes above and beyond for you. Loved her!

Really enjoyed her class. She is available and responds quickly. Her feedback is very helpful in improving your papers. Her critiques are matter of fact, but not harsh. I think she makes her students really reach in an pull the writer out of themselves.

I love Dr. Vails. Don't expect to skip class, or not pay attention and pass. Work is challenging, but if you show up and pay attention you will do fine. She is always willing to help if you ask. She does an excellent job preparing you for your future college experience. She is trying to equip you with the tools you need to be successful.

Use the forums and ask questions. You need to in order to get a feel for what she wants from you. It is important you interpret literature accurately. There are only 4 grades for the entire semester: mid-term, 2 big papers, and a final. She does not give forum or participation grade, still I got the feeling she pays attention to who does.

If you take this class, expect to have no free time because you will be at home writing papers and doing homework. The amount of work for this class is overwhelming. Not to mention the entire first half of the semester was all about Native American folk tales and the second half was all about Hawthorne. I'm not a big Hawthorne fan.

LOVE Dr. Vails! She is very sweet & helpful. Make sure to show up to class because she will give you daily grades that you can only get by being in class. We wrote 4 papers, plus she let us fix one paper at the end to receive a higher grade. Make sure to put your name down for her to revise your rough draft, it helps tremendously!

I would never recommend her English class online she seems like a very hard teacher. She was helpful but never take the online class because there is a big gap in communication. I wish I had the chance to see what she was like in a face-to-face class but I think her expectations are way too high for a college freshman.

She grades very generously, even if you only attempt an assignment she'll give you a grade higher than you probably deserved. Super nice, very motivating, she want you to pass. Definitely would recommend her if you like writing assignments.

Dr. Vails is a great professor. She is hard, but fair. You'll do a lot of work. She is the most helpful teacher I've ever had and her office door is always open. She is super nice and relates well to everyone. I would recommend her for sure. Just be respectful and do your work!
