Comment:

Prof. Yan is amazing, takes time if you need more in depth explanations. He's also very funny and understanding. We do test reviews which come in handy as they are similar to the tests you take. Homework isn't graded, but he hand picks problems that are similar on the tests ( so do some because they help). Very good on preparing you for next level.

Oh, you will love him. He's the best Math 20 professor, hands down. He knows his students hate math so he teaches "how" instead of "why." It makes it a lot less confusing. He's also extremely funny, you will find yourself laughing out loud from day one. I wish he taught more of the math classes. Study his practice tests and you'll be fine.

Professor yan is the most humble person I ever met, he tried his best to make student learn math. He is willing to solve any questions that student asked. His test is not so hard, he gave practice test right before the midterm and finals. Highly recommended professor, really enjoyed his class.

His class s pretty easy to pass if you just do the homework and show up. He gives us example tests that are just tests from the previous semester and are very similar to the actual tests. However he is constantly late showing up to class but this let me get to know my classmates better. Also he's the hottest teacher on campus!!

Dude, Mr. Yan is pretty funny. Yea for some students his lectures may be boring but it's not dreadful. I made lots of good friends in this class. He goes over the material and all you have to do is take notes. Easy. You turn in your homework on the day of the test. I'd take him again

Professor Yan is awesome!!! I would definitely take him again! He knows how to teach Math. He shows you step by step how he arrived at his answer. Practice tests are replicas of the real test. He also uses visual illustrations to explain mathematical concepts. Would definitely recommend!!!

Everything people are saying is true: hilarious, easy tests right from the example tests, gives away what's on the tests and 70% of the final, easy A, etc. Take him if you only need Math 20. My only criticisms are that he did not prep me for Math 2 and I had to scramble to try and catch up, and he does need to be more strict/people cheated.

Professor Yan really cares about everyone in the class understanding the concepts. You will do well if you attend all the classes and do the homework. He explains everything thoroughly and has really fun ways of remembering concepts. He has a great sense of humor!

so i took his class during the spring semester,at the first time it was difficult for me to undrestand him because of his accent( he is working on it by the way),but appart of that he's great, he is a very nice teacher, his tests are pretty easy but u have to do ur homework even if he doesn't check it otherwise u'll find difficulties ! This professor was so clear. He will break it down for you ten different way you Very humorous. I wish he taught the math board allowed him to teach all math levels. Highly recommend if you're someone who needs something to be broken down for you to understand.

I love Mr. Yan. His lectures are very clear, practice tests are just like the tests, only 3 tests and a final, hw optional, laid back, cracks down on cheaters, no need for the book. I looked forward to going to class, it was a relaxing end to the day. Attendance is mandatory and counts for 10% of your grade. I hope he teaches Math 2 next semester

Super easy class! There are only 4 test that consist of 20 problems & before each test he always gives a practice test thats exactly like the actually test. There is homework, but its easy & he doesn't check it until the midterm & on the final. Definitely would recommend to take him. Easy A.

This is my second time taking math 20 at smc and the first was horrible. Once I took Yan instead he made things much clearer ! Just show up for class and take notes, homework is not mandatory so i didn't need the book but if you skip class its a good reference. He helps you review for the test the class before, there should be no reason to fail

For someone who has feared math forever, this professor is amazing! Everything I never understood before, I now understand! His lectures are full of examples and he makes math as easy as possible. Do the homework and show up to class, you'll pass every test :) Best math professor I've ever had!

If you have trouble with math this is the class for you. His lecture is very straight forward, clear, and organized. He goes over examples which are very similar to what's on the test. He's patient and nice and not intimidating. One of the best math teachers I've ever had.

Comment:

Very easy class - You need to do the homework and practice tests if you want an A. In terms of grading, 89% is a B (no grading curve and no extra credit) but otherwise very clear and straight forward. I highly recommend this teacher.
