Comment:
Dr. Johnston is a helpful and very knowledgeable professor. He truly does have your best interest in mind. However, BIO195 was a bit of a shaky course that sped through very important material with tests that were very demanding, especially being this class was tailored for freshmen. Didn't enjoy the curriculum and many students dropped due to F's.

NOT A HELPFUL PROFESSOR. I will never take another class with him again. He looks at you like you are dumb if you need help (in this hard class). He needs more compassion for students who are trying to get good grades. But the whole bio departments is too smart to be teaching here. They all act like we are in a pHD program.

A decent professor for Lab. No complaints in terms of course structure, teaching style, or class in general. A bit of a tough grader but leaves good feedback. Lacks in the compassion department though. Wouldn't touch the man with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole.

Dr. J is a nice person but not very helpful as a teacher. He advertises office hours for help with assignments but doesnt help that much. He goes so fast through lecture making it hard to follow while he is racing through the room trying to write all he can on a chalk board. No book.

Comment:
No textbook for this course so while attendance is not mandatory it is if you wish to do well. I really don't think the difficulty lies on him, I think it is the college curriculum for the sciences that makes this class so difficult. Felt like I was in med school. Extra assignments not very helpful. Lecture is all chalkboard, must pay attention.

Dr. Johnston was literally one of the greatest professors I have ever meant. His lectures are incredible and I always left class feeling confident about what was taught. His class is challenging but he is more than willing to help whenever you need it. Definitely recommend!

He's lectures are long, but he breaks up the thick material with humor and very interesting "models" like walking on the desk and blindfolding a student before making them grab marbles from a jar. He's potentially the toughest grader I've ever had, but he recognizes the work you put in and gives you more credit for learning than for memorizing.

Class was probably one of the toughest classes that I've taken but it was also one of the best. His class was 100% chalkboard based, but if he mentioned it in his lectures, then it was fair game for the tests. If you put in the effort with him, you'll do just fine. Plus, he is always available to help you out and is happy to do so.

Dr. Johnston is tough! Lots of things to turn in and very harsh grader. But, he is funny and always willing to help! Tests are extremely hard, but even if you do terrible on them you can pass with a decent grade if you work hard in lab and other assignments. He expects you to work hard!!

Does not communicate well, incomprehensible, grades obscure, he leaves vague and absurd comments on labs and doesn't given credit when you fix it on the next one if he gives a 25 out of 30 on one lab most likely hell give you 25/30 for the rest. To simply put it, his way or the high way.

Very tough professor but very nice and helpful. He expects a lot but it's only to make his students more resourceful and rounded in biology.

Extremely hard professor. I worked my butt of in his class, went in for help at least once a week, learned a TON, and only received a D! I think he wants to weed out people, but i am a serious bio student and almost failed! His tests are way too hard, it's really unnecessary for a 200-level class.

I didn't learn very much from BIO 360. What I did learn was that molecular biology was not for me. Lack of a textbook made the material a lot harder than it should have been, and the final didn't seem to have much to do what we learned in class. The lab project was interesting, but the lack of a lab manual caused unnecessary problems.

I liked his jokes during lectures. He explains well. I also liked that he wrote everything on the board, so you could follow his reasonings.

He was a very hard teacher. He flew through overheads at lightning speed like it was a race or something. His class made know sense what so ever. And what do you know, now I am a teacher too. Except for I learned how not to teach from him.
